City’s smug travelling support provoked their hosts by cheering whenever the home team got across the halfway line.

Guardiola had called for more protection for his players from match officials and he got it from this one. Marriner tended to give City the benefit of the doubt on virtually every 50-50 decision even though their dominance of the game meant they rarely needed it.

brilliant as they can be, it is getting to the point where far too many games they are involved in follow the same repetitive pattern. It is in danger of becoming a little dull.
To be fair to Pep, when he talks about protection for the players he is 100% correct. Gundy was clattered last night in a challenge that should have seen a straight red for a deliberate attempt to kick the player out of the game, yet didn't even get a yellow. The same Newcastle player had another go at kicking Gundy out of the game later on which also didn't didn't command a card.

Considering that one of our skillful and creative midfielder's spent most of last season sidelined through injury, then Pep is right; our players, as all players need protection from thuggish challenges that are dished out for the sole purpose of kicking creative players out of the game. Any manager that sees this as a valid tactic should be called out and punished.
