The main stand was to be avoided at all costs when I was a kid. My mates dad used to get complimentary tickets off someone at the ground in there and I had the mispleasure a couple of times in the 80’s, it really was like the place people went to die to a young teenager.
They were some very bad lads went in the top left hand corner of the main stand in the mid eighties. Saw Everton and Spurs boys who had found their way in there get very bad beatings. No where was safe apart from the away sections for visiting fans at Maine Rd.

Why he works for the DM is beyond me. He could probably write his own weekly sports paper and be the highest selling/clicks in the business.
He’s the best regarded journalist in the country. I don’t like the word, but he’s the doyen.
Why does he work for the DM, in a word, reach (imho).
And they probably pay well.

What I don’t understand is the rest of the muppets in that profession; can’t they see the benefits that come with having your own mind like he does …(?)

Fuckin state of this shite

The author of this fairy tale is obviously clueless to his own clubs shite support over the years , the barcodes couldnt muster 15k for home games in top flight in the 70's there support was garbage.
Yet another mythical fan base , who also had 15k empty seats when they last dropped down a division , where as we went down to the third tier a little over 20 years ago and filled our ground every week.
At least the shithead who wrote the article will get plenty of clicks from the gormless Gerodie fans alongside the Dipper and Rags who love a negative City article which must have broke a record for the barefaced lies and inaccuracies in such a short piece of "journalism".

Another example of Barcelona being corrupt.
At the end of the article it indicates they were punished by the courts in what is called 'Neymar 1'. Despite this finding of guilt they were never punished by Uefa and yet if a club blocks a stairwell during a champs league game they are fined. As Jimmy Greaves once said 'it's a funny old game'.

“Left to their own devices,
there would only be three. And they would be playing in red”

Once again Samuel fucking nails it.

A bit of what’s in there!

So, if the word from recent Premier League meetings is to be believed, Newcastle and Nottingham Forest are what are known as useful idiots. It is suggested both are cosying up to the elite cabal, the Super League clubs who not so long ago were looking to stampede over the horizon, destroying the Premier League in the process, and leaving the clubs who remained choking on their dust. Newcastle and Forest have big ambitions and see the six as their natural allies. If this is true, they are even more foolish than they look.

No we didn’t. Our average home attendance that season was around 27,000 and the capacity of Maine Road was around (iirc) 34,000 at the time, which is about 80% capacity. Another Maine Road myth, just like the false claim in that article that it was a cauldron every week.

H block outer. Was sat in there one game when what seemed like gallons of beer came flying over our heads aimed at some Chelsea fans sat in front of us.

It's odd as Shearer has been absolutely full of praise for him in The Athletic, and went on record before the season started that he would score a record breaking amount of goals.

Clearly Kane would bag a lot, but this suggest Aguero was a good, but not great striker. Clearly that's rubbish as he's at least on a par with Kane as a goal scorer.
If Aguero had played in the Premier League as long as Shearer did then Aguero would be the top goal scorer

When I started going games, anything over 20k was a big game, northern teams you got around 30k. Rags was bursting well over 40k along with fa cup & Boxing Day.

Other grounds Rags seemed to be biggest with Ave 40k but would get games of 20k. N/W teams had best support, N/E & South were shit.

Lots of clubs could only dream of getting 15k & many less than 10k.

You could go any game on the spur of the moment & get in.

This is all off the top of my head so my memory might be clouded
