How is it that a friend of mine can register, tell me their user name, then when I search for them to put them in 'friends', the search comes up blank?

(And yes, I do have friends. No, really.)

Is there a bed-in period before they are 'searchable'?

If your, shall we say, hypothetical "friend" has an inactive account they won't appear in the list of members.
