I don't create many threads.

However, I was wondering has anyone had this and required surgery. A torn meniscus.

I've torn mine and require an operation. Unfortunately, I have also sprained the ACL, tears in the quadricep tendon and a bone marrow edema . But apparently those can be dealt with by physio.

Fortunately the surgery is being done privately - work is paying.

Just curious to the timeframe for recovery as I want to get back to training and doing my job.

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Training for what?

I have torn mine but I never had the surgery. In hindsight, I should have.

I did my left knee in. I had a scan and the fellah told me I had a torn meniscus muscle.
Several weeks later I saw the surgeon as preparation. He stated talking about how my right knee would soon be back to normal after the op.
Hmmmmmm.
Several days later I had a phone call from the hospital asking what aides I'd need, wheelchair, crutches ? Did I have a downstairs toilet..... I stopped her and asked why I would need all that. She told me a knee replacement was a very serious operation.
When I kicked off via my GP I was told my file had been put in the wrong tray.
When I went in the nurse asked what I was there for. I refused to tell her and asked what she thought I was in for.
Anyway, it got done and 4 weeks later I was fine.

Very disconcerting when they don’t know why you’re there. I went for a scan to look at my kidney stone. Went into Imaging dept.
“Hi, what are you here for?”
“Don’t you know?”
Awkward shuffle….er…no. The urgent referral did not specify.

I wish you'd posted this when it actually happened
I need a new knee and the NHS is throwing up every possible hurdle not to perform the operation
I would have gone in under your name

Had my cartilage removed a couple of decades ago now with keyhole surgery. Thankfully I'd just been taken on permanently by a company that had bupa cover a few months earlier.

I'd actually unknowingly torn the cartilage a few years before and, also unbeknownst to me, it had somehow tried to repair itself by attaching itself to my cruciate. When I tore it for the second time it affected the cruciate also, and I literally couldn't walk at all without help. I only did it stepping off a kerb too (although football was the cause of the original one!)

But from not being able to walk, I had the surgery and walked out of the hospital that same day. Had bandaging for a while but it was amazing for me. The only thing they didn't tell me was that I may be more susceptible to arthritis in later life and I'm starting to feel it a bit now already in my 40s. But they did tell me to be very careful as if I tweak the cruciate again I'd likely be on crutches for life, luckily non-issue so far even when I kicked up the exercising, I'm just wary of impact exercise and do other stuff instead.

For me they encouraged movement and with going from limping to normal I was really happy to get around, more had to keep it sensible, so hope it's the same for you mate. I've only really lost out on that I can't take my girls ice skating and they seemed desperate to do that for many birthdays , but I do get out of parent's sports day so not all bad!

What grade is the tear pal? I've known lads back on a treadmill inside 12 weeks, I've known lads who've never kicked a ball again. I'd rather break my ankle than fuck my knee up, and I've done both!
