Messi vs Kinkladze

Take off those blue tinted glasses mate or step away from the special brew.

Not so tinted. Had Kinky been in a team like Barca, and had folk around him who were top dog in their position, then Kinkladze would be on ESPN Legends instead of that kung fu wallah Cantona!
Well I know he had some interest from European teams but the big boys never really were interested so that must say something.

Which year did Kinky score 86 goals in again?

He played in one of the best sides in Europe at the time at Ajax and did nothing. Couldn't even hold down a place in the Georgia team in fact.

Ridiculous comparison.

How come we got relegated with Quinn, Rosler, Flitcroft and Lomas then? Not just Ball's fault. Gio flopped at Ajax and dis nothing special in a good Jim Smith Derby team.

This garbage annoys me. Mr anonoymous especially away from home in the Championship.

The reason Kinkladze 'flopped' at Ajax was because he was signed as a replacement for Jari Litmanen. Problem was, his proposed move to Barcelona fell through and Kinkladze ended up being played out of position on the left hand side of midfield as apposed to an attacking midfielder/second striker.

Kinkladze couldn't keep City up on his own, no matter how much he tried. If you have Martin 'Buster' Philips missing open goals v Sheffield Wednesday after Kinkladze had done all the hard work and laid it on a plate for him, he can't be held responsible.

Kinkladze is still the best player I have seen in a City shirt. I have wonderful memories of him. Newcastle at home, Oxford away, West Ham in the Cup and the solo goal v Southampton.

Ah yes, those giants of European football: Oxford, West Ham and Southampton.

Messi is what Kinkladze could have been if he could have been arsed. The talent, pace, body strength, intelligence all there.

Unfortunately, Kinkladze was just a token footballer with a secret fatty inside.

A playboy to whom football was a hobby.

Tragic that such a lazy selfish player had such gifts.

More ability than Silva, Aguero, Tevez put together, but an attitude & workrate that makes Robinho look like Colin Bell.

He was at City for 3 seasons and was absolutely useless for most of the time

I used to go home and away then and wait 90 minutes for him to do something magical to win the game and 3-4 runs per game was rarely enough.

In the end it was a relief to see Joe Royle drop him

Le Tissier had the worst workrate of any top class footballer in the last 20 years and yet he still tore up the league.

And that’s the reason you can never compare the two players. Messi is streets ahead of Kinkladze, no contest.

I was merely saying I have fond memories of Kinkladze and those were the games that stood out straight away. I remember Southend home and away he destroyed them, Villa at home in the league and the solo goal v Leicester.

Oh yes, Kinkladze is certainly streets behind Messi.

Ha, streets ahead :)

Fair enough, mate.

Kinky was correctly idolised by City fans and he was a football genius at the right place at the wrong time. Was he as good as Messi , no chance but I do believe he was (despite the adulation) a little underrated.

Many accused him of not getting his head up when the had the ball and thus dribbled into trouble but that's not how I saw it. He had the ability to find a pass and play them very well but sadly the rest of the team just were not good enough a) to make passes possible or b) to interchange passes with him. And I don't accept the crap that teammates didn't show because he was always greedy bla bla.

If he was in City's team now he would be a superstar and link brilliantly with the likes of Yaya,Silva,Tevez and Aguero and the rest and we would be a much better team with his genius.

Yeah, those silly continentals probably concluded they'd got enough goalies on the books.

are you sure,

He's still the best player i've seen at City, when he could be arsed.

I've got his debut shirt in my shirt collection that he wore v Spurs in 1995. Never, ever getting rid of it.

What a ridiculous thread.

All Kinkladze was was a small ray of light at a really bad time for City when we had absolutely nothing to shout about.

Messi has been the best player in the world for 3 seasons.

It's a bit like comparing Johan Cruyff with Rodney Marsh.

Can't disagree too strongly with this but he certainly lit up a few dark days and will rightly be remembered fondly.

Christ on a bike!!!

Messi V Kinkladze.... Bluemoon hits a new low.

Gio was good. Messi is the best player of all time.

There isn’t a single aspect of Kinkys game that even equals Messi's. Even dribbling.
