Metrolink to / from Etihad

Got the bus in to the game last night.
Went a long way for a short cut and must have took 25 mins.
I take it this was done thinking of traffic congestion.
Driver was adamant he went the correct way when folk pulled him up about it.lol.
Tram back was quicker as well last night.

End of the Leeds game tonight and no trams for upwards of 16 minutes towards Piccadilly. The excuse is "Heavy football traffic" which makes zero sense since we are the heavy football traffic, unless it's they can't get down towards Holt Town inbound to the ground.

It's absolutely dire yet again.

And two Ashton trams (in the meantime) which rarely makes any sense.

I walked into town and had 4 pints so the football traffic should have cleared. As I approached Peters Sq an Alti tram was in. We got on only to be told it was terminating at Trafford Bar. We got off and waited and waited.
No information, no one to speak to, it's a joke.
Burnham had the gall to say this week we were making a bid for the Olympics. No way, absolutely no way should we be allowed to host anything, never mind the Olympics whilst we have this totally shit transport system

Just planning transport for Saturday's game v Sunderland as I'm out in town for a gig afterwards and no trams were showing on the "Plan your journey" section of their website.

It appears that there will be disruption due to tram drivers industrial action with no tram service from some time on Friday through to Sunday.

Most news on this is five or six days old. Is anyone aware of this or have any more recent updates?

* Edit - Just noticed it's mentioned on page 111 but might spread awareness

Strikes still going ahead as it stands but talks are ongoing so it might be averted yet. I hope so but I do have empathy with the drivers on this one.

Christ, roads were bad enough Saturday evening. Not looking forward to this if it goes ahead.

The Alty service was really bad on Sat. It's the worst serviced line on the network imo. As for Burnham, he sticks his beak into everything else, it's long overdue these clowns running metrolink being gripped.

Totally agree. Ignore the football for the moment. If people cannot get into and out of town they will stop going.
Midweek matches highlight how many theatre goers, concerts at the other place, people out for meals drinks etc cannot get a tram at Peters Sq, Deansgate and even Cornbrook. If Burnham and the rest don't tackle it the night time economy will suffer badly. Instead of building new lines, Stockport is the next, improve the current shit show.

Mets are more frequent than that at 1pm on a Monday dinnertime, never mind after a game.

Just looked and news of this weekend’s strike action has been taken off the Bee Network page it has previously been on.

Nothing new in the press about it since 21st November either.

I’m not on X or owt, anyone know if there’s owt on the Bee Network socials?
One of the best sources is SSC MCR Transport forum as some of the posters are tram drivers. All they’re saying atm is “talks ongoing”.

Traffic was grim on Saturday and after the match there were cars driving in and cars driving out due to whatever concert was on that night. This Saturday is Jamiroquai @ 7.30pm. Idk if it’ll be worse or better.

We've got an ever worsening problem on the road and motorway network in GtrMcr due to traffic increase, bike lanes and all the rest of it. Metrolink does pick up a lot of journeys that would otherwise be done on the road. Now by and large it offers an efficient and relatively inexpensive service. However this service is loaded to the Mon-Fri 7 am- 6pm travellers. The problem is that the weekend and later evening services suffer with pre and post event journeys become horrendous. This is now a blight with no sign of improving.

Stockport doesn't need a tram line, you never wait more that 10 mins for a train into Manchester. Money would be better spent increasing the existing city centre capacity.

Yes Manchester is inevitably becoming a victim of its own success. Getting so rammed with day trippers etc infrastructure starts cracking at the seams . . .
By Manchester, I assume you mean the city centre. An advantage of living there is being unreliant on the car and trams.

The city centre is a pinch point and slows down the whole Metrolink network. Every new line added has made that pinch point worse. At times it feels like footfall is getting up and down the streets of Town faster than you are when stood on the Met, especially on Mosley Street.

Money spent on city centre capacity or a form of transport that’s not the Metrolink being able to take away pressure on the city centre Met lines.

100 % behind the drivers on this , as someone who has earned their living as a driver for the past 4 years they have my total support ! I will be surprised if it’s not resolved before the weekend tbh , too much business stuff in Manchester City centre relies on footfall especially this time of year .
