Metrolink users

I got Metrolink yesterday to work after taking the advice to use it from Manchester council due to these roadworks. Rammed in like cattle on way in, fist fight in next carriage due to overcrowding which stopped tram, gobshite pissed up woman pestering everyone on journey home.

Back to traffic jams today.

Just spent 45 minutes looking at the prices and network map, trying, once again, to find any decent combination of travel times and ticket pricing that would remotely stand a chance of enticing me out of my car/ traffic jams.

And I failed, once again. I even tried to be creative with park and ride locations when going simply and directly a to b became obviously ridiculous. The journey planner is crap - it usually makes the point that driving (or indeed cycling) is faster. Why would i ever want a 48 minute walk between two apparently connected tram stops?

Is it really this much of a shambles? Why would anyone consider adding 1.5hrs journey time to the working day, and pay a fortune for the privilege?

What journey were you planning to make? What were the two connected stops?

The best thing they could do is offer free tram travel on matchdays to anyone with a ticket for the game.

Who would pay for that? The club or Metrolink?

For me, the best thing Metrolink could do is start putting on "Football Specials" trams.

You used to be able to get the tram from Bury direct to the Etihad with no changes.

You used to be able to get the tram from Altrincham direct to the Etihad with no changes.

You used to be able to get the tram from Sale Water Park direct to the Etihad with no changes.

None of these services are still available.

You now have to change at Piccadilly or St Peter's Square, adding 12 minutes to the journey time.

The infrastructure is there to operate these services direct.

The demand is certainly there judging by how packed those trams used to be.

Why don't they put on these "Football Specials" trams for a match day?

It would actually be better for non-match going punters not to be crammed in with the match goers.

And even if these services disrupted the schedule, the majority of games are at the weekend in the afternoon so wouldn't affect too many people's work travel schedule.

Do they do that for the rags like Northern do for trains?

It is insanity why they can't and won't run direct trams from these areas on match days. Anyone know why not?
