I have a feeling this game might be a case of not wanting to lose. If somebody wins this game then they probably finish 2nd behind Argentina.

Mexico
Mexico have been knocked out of the last 7 World Cups in the round of 16. They seem to get through the group and then come unstuck against any decent side they face. They finished 2nd behind Canada in Concacaf qualifying. The majority of their team plays in Mexico, it’s not the strongest Mexican squad I’ve ever seen:

Their recent form is indifferent:

Poland
Poland will be hoping to go one better than they did in Russia where they went out at the group stages. They have a decent squad with players playing all over Europe. Lewandowski is obviously their star player and he’s in great form, as is Zielinski, who has contributed to Napoli’s brilliant start.

They qualified for the World Cup with a decent win over Sweden, in the Nations League they became a bit unstuck against Belgium and Netherlands but they did enough to avoid relegation:

Might break my WC boycott for this. Why no Polak pundit? There’s not exactly a dearth of poles over here.

Orły Do Boju

With the Argentina loss this game takes on even more importance in who can qualify from the group. Winning it puts you in an excellent position now. Lewandowski should be the difference.

This Mexican goalie is an enigma. Nobody knows him, nobody knows who he plays for, nobody knows where he lives, yet somehow he's at every world cup to do some superman dives
