He was excellent in Jackal, as the detective on the hunt for Edward Fox's would be assassin.A Bond villain, Day of the Jackal and Ronin...............quite the CV. Claude Lebel is gone.

It's probably a shame that he will be best remembered for Moonraker as Drax than for his many credits in France.
Day of the Jackal is immense and Lonsdale made a worthy protagonist to Edward Fox's assassin Calthrop. The guy who played the French Minister was Alan Badel who I think was from Longsight.
I particularly remember Lonsdale as the Abbott in the Name of the Rose. Terrific film with Ron Perlman almost unrecognisable in an early role.
