Trying to log into my Outlook account today, which I use in my work as a self employed person.

Instead of logging me in as normal, it now wants my phone number or won't let me into my account. Effectively, they are ransoming data and emails to users.

They are absolute cunts.

Gmail have been trying to get mine off me for years. Apparently it's for my own security, so I can restore my password if I get hacked. Yeah right. At least there is a tiny button on gmail that lets me ignore it, as I have no intention of giving them anything I don't have to.

And what's the issue with giving a bogus one???

Let me guess.....they text you some activation googly goo thingy followed by numerous texts such as

"Are you getting the best out of your Microsoft experience"

To stop text 666999 (texts are charged at Scandinavian rates and will cost you your left nad) Odennnnnnnn

Could be worse, could want blood. Or bank details.

It's only a phone number, the worst that will happen is a few Mithering texts. Used to annoy me when I went on the android shop and got asked for it every time I downloaded something, so just gave it to them. No ill effects after about a year. Chill.

Nope, no skip button. It's 'Give us your phone number or fuck off'.

It's a fucking outrage.

I'd look into obtaining a free sim card, use that phone number so you can log in and then proceed to get everything you need before switching to Gmail.

I gave google my number as added security and can say i have had no shitty texts asking me this that and the other.
Google know what pisses people off and i doubt will ever resort to such tactics.

I have had my hotmail email address blocked for security reasons, but whatever I try, answering all their security questions still no reply and email, blocked. I have had this address for over 15 yrs and so many contacts built up with working self employed and now live in Oz with many friends from home.

Can't do anything to get it back. Give them your number and be lucky you still have use of the address.

This happened to me and i had to wait 30 days to get it back after I answered some security questions (I didn't give them a phone number).

The real killer is if you have windows 8 and it wont log on using that email and password.
