Middlesbrough post-match thread

It is a major worry when we are unable to put teams to bed. I couldn't believe how twice it was on a plate for Sterling and he completely missed the ball or miss kicked it completely. Despite having fantast attacking talent we seem to struggle with actually putting it in the net. Against crap teams we will manage, against better opposition will become an issue.

He was slightly ahead of the ball on both occasions, great to see him making them runs though.

Know what you mean. I was very concerned that he took YaYa off. It suggests he's playing on Wednesday which for me is a mistake.

He's doing the flat track bully thing just fine, spraying passes about, but he's still getting run past every week. Fernandinho should be holding for me.

Fernandinho hasn't got the passing range of Yaya to play this role effectively against poor never mind quality opposition. Plus he's been pretty poor of late.

Really agree about Yaya. He dictates our game from deep and against Boro he was able to effect and control the game at times, but against better teams who play with a lot more energy he is a defensive liability. Fernandinho should be playing in his place for the biggest games.

Regarding Boro subs I think Guardiola would have made the changes earlier had we got a 3rd. At 2-0, 1 goal could have totally changed the complexion of the game and lifted them.

Again he's not the same player, if he's there we have no one to play that pass in to Zab for the goal plus other chances, it's an area i'd certainly expect us to be looking at strengthening in the summer, Kroos probably.

I know you must search his name just to leap to his defence at any criticism but both of them occasions was awful, a few air shots thrown in too. It's even funnier after the first one which Silva then tucked away his assist stats then get pedalled out. Loving him this season, miles better than last year and will only improve. As a team we need to become absolutely ruthless in front of goal.

Just reading through posts and I noticed you singling him out for criticism again. Was he not slightly ahead of the ball on both occasions then?

Anyone remember Stones going down in the box late on? He nicked the ball of someone as he was going towards the corner flag then got taken out!! Looked stonewall but they didn't repeat it?

He's dead right,Sterlings finishing is sub par.

He's better than last year but still along way from being an elite player.

Leroy Sane is a much better & more intelligent prospect.

Never suggested it wasn't, I was just pointing out.....ah forget it.

Silva's finishing is just as bad yet I don't see him being singled out for criticism over it.

Sané looks a wonderful prospect I agree, don't get the more intelligent bit though, Raheem's running off the ball and his positional sense is excellent so I'm not sure why you reckon Sané is a more intelligent prospect.

I thought on the day it was a penalty and how it was that nobody appealed for it.

Yes he was, and the constant criticism of Raheem still absolutely baffles me, particularly when he's arguably been our most consistent attacker this summer. I thought he was great on Saturday, and don't forget he had a goal chalked off wrongly for offside.

To me the reason we didn't win by 5 or 6 was mainly due to their keeper having a blinder rather than poor finishing
