He is. Met him briefly a couple of times and he is an absolute gent. Totally suited to his role as a club ambassador: he is truly a credit to himself and our magnificent club.

Met him a couple of times. In my experience, a polite, warm and funny man. Very happy for him.
'The Anfield Iron' was indeed on the list at the time but the top 4, according to the players' vote, included 'Buzzer'.. and given something like 90% of the list was made up of defenders, it shows how tough he was!Interesting. Btw, other comments in this thread mention how Summerbee 'couldn't qualify' for a knighthood as he didn't play for a certain team in red.. too true!
And I always thought it incredible that Bob Paisley was never knighted, given his achievements far outweighed Matt Busby's (who deserved the accolade) Could be that Paisley turned it down, who knows? But given the knighthoods thrown about like confetti to the Red Filth, I think it was an insult to Liverpool’s greatest manager that he didn't get the award.

Confirming what others have said about Buzzer, I have met him on numerous occasions as my BF back in dear old blighty was a good friend of his.
I was fortunate enough to be invited to his house on one occasion and was shown around by the lovely and beautiful Tina, who asked me if I want to go round next door to meet "Steve McDonald" but i declined as it would have been simply too much to take in, after meeting Mr & Mrs Buzzer :-)
Mike & Tina showed me a room, where Mikes pictures literally covered all the walls, including some cracking ones with his "Escape to Victory" fellow stars, including Stallone and Pele. Plus some brilliant ones with Bobby Moore and also his great friend, George Best, of course.
I was totally in my element and would have stayed there all evening, but we were going out for a drink with Mike and a few 'others' in Cheadle Heath, so we had to leave :-(

Not sure. Franny could, and did, take a lot of punishment. People thought that because of his diving he didn't really get whacked. Had a friend at school who got a lift with him once (the friend's family lived in Knutsford). He asked him whether tackles were as hard as they looked. Franny just pulled his trouser leg up a bit, and my friend told me that it was unbelievable, it was black and blue with bruises.
But he didn't dish it out like the others on the list, in my view. Taking it and dishing it out (without any fuss either way) is my definition of the hard.

He may well have turned it down. They keep it very quiet at the Palace when people do that. I think they're sounded out very discreetly, first.
I like that story about Bill Shankly hanging around the training ground every day, and an exasperated Paisley turning to him and saying, “Look, Bill, you don't work here any more!”
