If i had started a thread saying City were crap and were going top struggle next year then there would have been hundreds of people agreeing.
Its a bit like the grammar and spelling police ignoring well argued points to point out the missuse of the apostrophe.
Why are Blues so negative?
I'm realistic.
We have better individuals than most clubs, but we do not have the best team. I honestly think that you need more than a few off months in the summer to blend everybody how you want it. Chelsea have a better team than us, as do United, and arguably Arsenal. Spurs have a squad full of talent, and a great manager who has managed in the Prem for donkey's years to boot.
Our results against the weaker teams in the league show how far away we actually are from the title. If you want to be another Blackburn or Leeds, then fine. I would rather have sustained success over a number of years, and that comes from building as you go rather than injecting hundreds of millions into a team. For all of our quality, we still don't have a guy who can boss a midfield, or a Wing Back who can cross, or a defensive minded midfielder who can pass, or a Keeper who can distribute a ball properly, etc, etc, etc.
As much as it kills me to say, the thing that I have learnt about football this season (and let's face it, we are always all still learning), is that a winning mentality will always beat a team of quality, over the long term of a league. How many times did this squad give away silly goals? How many times did we throw a game? How many times could we have scored a few more?
I would guess, that we did this much more than United and Chelsea. We are nowhere near them yet, we are still on par with Spurs, and behind Arsenal. Give it another couple of years and we'll be there, but there is no reason to lump extra pressure on the manager about winning titles as fan's expectations and then complaining when he doesn't.
