Missing woman Nicola Bulley - inquest (P 158)

Very sad ..after a week in the water what state would the body be in ?
I’m not sure, but I think they bloat up.

Although I think coroners used to keep dead bodies in water before electric freezing. So maybe it preserves them better.

We live 15 minutes away and walk that rough route once a week, the river is odd as in parts you could easily wade across and in others it's a lot deeper, the chances of being near the deeper bits are a lot smaller though as they tend to be in the wooded bits, what I would say is we've had relatively low rainfall so the river hasn't been high for a few weeks, my mate who is a copper actually has a house thats garden backs onto the river and has been involved in this and it has really shaken him up, he will not let his Mrs walk the dog on her own etc so I'm not fully buying into the 'river theory'. I think they are keeping some ideas close to their chest, there are other places she could have got to (and someone else could have got to where she was) in the timeframe given but this has never been discussed publicly. You also have to remember St Michael's population is small and mainly older people, most houses won't have cctv, they keep banging on about how there's only 2 ways in and out of the area but that is rubbish as we park near a farmers gate when we go, there's also a caravan site that has access points to those fields, I actually look after the pumping station on allotment lane that cuts through to Garstang road and the police hadn't even contacted us for access to check in the wells as of last night

Fell in water
Died

I reckon

You don't just die from falling in 4 feet of water. She was also wearing a massive padded coat, so it would have taken 10 seconds for the cold water to reach her skin, so long enough for her to get out and not have cold water shock. Also, in 4 feet of water, from the chest up, she'd be out of the water just standing up. And it isn't a fast flowing river, so she wouldn't have just gone in and then whoosh out to sea. She could have just walked out onto the bank.

The only plausible thing I can think of is that a sand bank could have collapsed and she's gone down into a sink hole with the sand and mud going in on top of her then the river has covered it up.

That would explain the dog and the phone still in the same spot.

How often would that happen? Genuine question.

I don't know whether they confirmed it in the conference yesterday or if it's a new development but police now saying they think she might have fallen in the water trying to retrieve the dogs ball, and are now asking the public to look out for her clothing on the banks of the river.

They did. Her friend was on earlier though that they’ve stopped using the ball some time ago because it was holding up their walking.
Same friend also pretty skeptical and frustrated with the police saying she’s fallen into the river.

What if she banged her head when she fell. Knocked unconscious

You'd have thought (hoped) the police would have asked the witnesses if she / the dog had a ball with her when they spoke, or at least picked it up on the CCTV of her on the way to the river before they ran with that theory.
