Monaco - Post Match thread.

I can accept things but not playing Yaya last night was a poor decision for me. Anyway, I think we'll be fine for 2017-18 and on, we knew there was much to do this season and I'm sure the next 2-3 seasons (at least) are going to be very enjoyable. FA Cup and Runners-up (although I still hope we have that final burst and Chelsea implode!) will still be good.

We are not CL Winner pedigree yet and it's been obvious we are at least 5 players away from having a team that can win on all fronts for months. Gundogan was key to Pep's plans and without his involvement / development within the team we have stalled IMO

Just because in this run of form Kev's struggled in clutch moments that for me isn't a sign of mental weakness. He's shown the kind of "big game" mentality previously that only Toure in our squad has had in an attacking sense.

Inconsistency has been in his game since he was a youngster and although you could argue that this is about composure, or even about concentration, what it doesn't signify is a weak mentality. Mentally weak players rarely if ever show up in big games.

You are not convincing me that there is not a question to answer; especially when he produced perhaps the most significant miss of the season in the biggest game of the league season.

If Kev wins us the FA Cup from here, he might be able to stake a claim to have Yaya levels of mental strength.

I have seen too many football matches not to know sometimes teams don't start at 100% in important games. That's acceptable.
That was the moment to get Yaya on (for Sterling, shift KDB out right) and control the match.
Also Zab on for Sagna like we did in the 1st leg and because we know we always can rely on his spirit.
Those changes would have been a strong shout for the Blues and for Monaco as well.

Well, hindsight. Would be interesting to know, why Pep didn't make those changes.

Possibly because we were so on top at that moment it looked like there was only one winner. Who knew we'd fuck it all up from a soft set piece? We did enough to win the game despite a poor first 45. I'm tired of reading and hearing how outplayed we were by pundits everywhere. We really should have scored 4 or 5 and there would be no debate now.

Beautiful team of Monaco. Well deserved in both matches. The first game was very lucky for City to finish with an advance of two goals.

people have to get real we was never in a month of Sunday's going to win the champions league with this squad even if we won tonight you think the big teams like barca or mardid would lose any sleep over play city and this squad

it hurts like mad to lose but you don't need to be told its right in front of our eyes we are weak and only the front line of sterling sane jesus and stones can book a place for next season squad we have to many dead beats and the clean out will or should be a cull 10 to 15 places need to be took by new signings and youth and last night game was the last straw the full backs stocking the keeper was shocking the one midfield player we had lost the ball every time he looked for a pass what was i watching last night is this what we have come too

so the season is still not over and in a way could be a good thing we went out now and after the international break and we get the liverpool game out of the way we will still be in the top 4 in the next 2 weeks know matter how the others do this weekend lets just get this week over and regroup in 2 weeks

Good points, but how long exactly are were meant to wait until we can compete? I know the CL is extremely difficult to win but at the moment it's like the impossible dream.

I thought it fairly obvious we'd concede late on as they just pushed us straight back after our goal.

There was a classic example of this in the second half, Sterling was on the corner of the area and backheeled a ball into a channel where Zaba always makes a run in those situations - Sagna didn't have a clue what was happening and no doubt some thought it was a shit idea from Sterling.

yeap sagna and clichy shouldnt be allowed passed the halfway line

We are however and we have to deal with it unless the owners are of the opinion that Pep is not capable of

getting the best out of his squad and challenging for trophies particularly the main two and or style and set up is not suited to the premiership.

That's because we don't play Rugby ;-)

But we didn't cos we don't take our chances & haven't been doing for yonks with Kun our main culprit.

We DIDNT need to score ......we needed to stop them scoring two !!

Score six and go out.....typical City.

It is not a disaster, a big game in the quarter finals would have been fun but we were never going to win it this year anyway. But at the same time it needs to be said that last year in CL we went out in the semis 0-1 over two legs against the eventual winners. This seasons CL campaign has been a failure not a learning process.

We are not a "project" anymore, over the last five years City has been one of the two strongest English teams every year. Every champions league season until this year has been a step forward. Now we are out of Champions League and ten points behind Chelsea in the league. I don't think I am the only one who had expected more out of this season.

I still believe Pep will take the club to the next level but he should be judged by his results at City not by his past victories. A comfortable top three finish in the league and a FA Cup win will make me happy. Then roll on next season with no excuses.

We were never gonna stop them scoring with our defence...and yes we didn't score but should have. Onwards and upwards.

Wonder what odds you could have got ,for us NOT to have a shot at goal for the entire first half. Fucking dire performance.

My only issue with last night is how we let them overrun us like that in the first half. Pep 100 percent would have warned the players what to expect it's not as if we have players who aren't used to such occasions. I can accept teams playing better than us but not being able to keep the ball more than 3/4 passes or showing no desire to win the ball back isn't acceptable. Second half showed what were about but the damage was done. Reading the comments on here and how disappointed everybody is about not qualifying is a massive compliment to the job pep has done so far let's not forget the majority of this team is the same team that only just scraped 4th place last season more through luck than anything else. A squad that has been on the decline for a few seasons. Pep has come in and added some brilliantly talented young stars to the team and before kick off last night we were still in the champs league, semi final on the horizon in the fa and joint 2nd in the league. He knows what needs to be done and he will do it! Of that I have no doubt.

No intensity, passion, leadership or ownership, pre requisites in Elite teams. Think the All Blacks.

Love Dave but under yesterday's circumstances & when he's struggling with his own game,he Doesn't lead the team in the way tha a VK would.

We don't have a natural captain in VKs absence but that doesn't excuse a gutless first half.

If it means our chances of beating Arsenal in the semi are improved it might be a blessing in disguise going out last night. We have a better chance of winning a domestic trophy.

Onwards and upwards.

We all knew this was going to be a bit of a transitional season as Pep looked at the squad and tried to implement his way of playing on it, but that considered it has still been frustrating. A little like Pellegrini constantly saying, '' We play this way always'' when as fans we could all see just a bit of tweaking and we would win more games, a fact he twigged in the end when we won the title, Pep is doing the same.

Whatever is happening with the style and the defence hasn't really worked all season with the personnel we have at the moment. Considering most of them will be replaced next season why persist with a style they struggle with? If we win the FA Cup and finish higher in the league than last season it will probably be considered a reasonable one, but it would still tempered with '' What if? '' for me.
