Could someone enlighten me if the players get a bonus or a percentage of the shirt sales with their name on it? Kind of a random question, but I got an away shirt with Sturridge on it and the third shirt with Robinho on it and I was wondering if that effected their pay? Thanks for the info.
It would seem that SWP should get a higher percentage than most. I got one of his shirts the year we sold him and it cost an arm and a leg because of all the letters in his name.

I assume "Image Rights" comes into play here.

Good question.

It's hard to imagine that they don't take a percentage of shirt-sale money ....... especially when the likes of Robinho shifted 2,000 shirts bearin' his name within days of his arrival!

I remember hearing that Ronaldinho would get a certain percentage of money from shirt sales, as part of the deal if he was to sign for us. I might be wrong though.

Correct me if I am wrong, but when I have had shirts printed, I have not seen anyone make a note of whose name went on it. The receipt just states shirt with adult lettering and the name is produced with individual letters, so how do they know how many danny mills shirts were sold to pay him his cut..??

You no longer pay by the letter, so a SWP shirt now costs the same as a Jo one.

Only the high-profile superstars have clauses relating to shirt sales and image right. Beckham, for example, managed to negotiate an astonishing 50% share of all Milan merchandise shifted bearing his image or name.

As far as I'm aware, Robinho has no such deal with City. Most players simply hand over there image rights to the club as part of their contract. At 160k a week, I think he's being adequately compensated ;-)

No such thing as image rights in the UK. They have them in many European countries but not here. The copyright to photographs belongs to the photographer or whoever commissioned him.
