It is bizarre that they managed to somehow turn Journey to the West into one of the weirdest and most enjoyable kids tv shows around, absolutely loved it as a kid and it pretty much all went completely over my head.
To be fair it wasn't a kids show in japan and not sure when shown here it was intended as anything but a family show for all.
Journey to the west (which I have and read most of it) jas been made into tv shows many times in asia and most recently with Netflix A korean odyessey and the american mini series Into the badlands

Loved monkey as a kid. Still remember sitting glued to it eating pot noodles which seemed like an exotic treat at the time that we only got on Friday nights after mum did the 'big shop'.
Used to love Fridays - doing fuck all in school after lunch, crackerjack, then monkey before bed.

Lol, I've read it and watched Into the Badlands and somehow didn't pick up on the link at all, might have to rewatch that as I didn't remotely pick up on it. I never picked up on into the badlands until nick frost arrived in season two as Zhu Bajie apparently sunny name was reference to was sun wukong but so was M K (monkey king) and in S3 Sunny when revealed.to be called Sanza was actually a Tang Sanzang reference

I liked it so stuck with it plus Orla brady and Manchesters very own Emily Beecham were a bonus watch

Neither perky or adequately sized anyhow as a mere scamp I watched it in bewilderment. Monkey blowing on his fingers, a pink cloud a bloke called piggy who.looked well pig like. Mouths moving out of sync. Gender issues not even knowing what that meant.
Most of my childhood was watching things obviously made by people taking too many drugs. Loved every minute of it.
My favourite the French sword fighting thing and buster Crabtree who managed to be flash Gordon and buck Rogers

Used to love Monkey but can imagine it looking very corny and naff if watched today. As a boy we went all over the West Midlands looking for the soundtrack record, Monkey Magic, eventually got it and its still at my parents house somewhere
