There are a few candidates.
I can see Richards being one; he has been a very important presence for some crucial games. He also seems more grounded and football savvy when being interviewed (Mancini: well done).
Zabaletta and Yaya could also be mentioned - but in my opinion both have been integral parts of the City engine since day one (I admit, this means different things at different times - but generally they are both City legends in my eyes).
Joe Hart definitely runs a very close runner up - and only so because he was so bloody good to begin with anyway! Respect.
BUT I have to give this award to Lescott.
He has taken a lot of stick over the last year or so (some of it justified).
He has remained calm and philosophical during this period, judging by interviews he has given after the odd game he got.
He stepped up to the plate when the shit hit the fan (slang for Kolo's ban).
And he totally surprised me (and obviously many fans) when, after just a couple of games next to Komps, started improving the defense with his SUPERB arial dominance.
THEN he steadily began finding players with his passes.
AND THEN he started finding players with his own clearances.
He has made one notable mistake that springs to mind (since his recall after Kolo's ban), namely the long ball over the top in the Final (can happen to the best). He put Kenwyn off his shot, and thankfully the best keeper in the league was there to make his only vital contribution to the end result. Which is fair, because Joe definitely deserves the recognition for the part he has played in the winning of the trophy anyway!
Anyway.. to cap it off, he gets a goal tonight, and to be honest, I'm chuffed for the guy (can you tell!).
He has had immense pressure since he joined, and is not new to the shit that life can throw at you, so all in all, right now I couldn't think of a better candidate for "most improved player".
Thanks Joleon - you may well have been the difference this season.
Skills.
(or, as Joe Hart would say.. "DEEE-SERVED"!!!!
