Who in the media has claimed that?
We're quite capable of that by the way. We could even finish second, but both you and United collapsing is highly improbable. Last season we were 15 (FIFTEEN) points behind United at this point in the season with our ridiculous collapse after Wilkins was sacked and Ancelotti's father died; and we came within one game at OT of winning it by the end with a resurgence overturning 3 teams. We went from demolishing all-comers running away with it to complete write-offs, clawing it back to one game winner takes all and we lost it.
You can't write off either of the two teams who have won the league for the last eight years but we have been for the most part (though thats fine with me because we made the comeback last season with the pressure off).
Spuds will drop off as they're about to go through their delicious run, City aren't looking as unbeatable as they were in the beginning and United's injury problems and lack of a midfield is catching up with them. Making judgements in the first half of the season is the silliest thing you can do. Arsenal and Spurs were in the relegation zone at one point.
Spurs: City (A), Wigan (H), Liverpool (A), Newcastle (H), Arsenal (A), United (H), Everton (A), Stoke (H), Chelsea (A) - and they already fucked up at Wolves.
I'm not sure they'll be 3rd by the time they come out of that. Just like their run in the CL when they came up against Madrid, they'll come back down to earth eventually. Not even considering the possibility of injury to any of three key (injury prone) players to their side. I can agree that their first team is a real competitor, but I don't think their squad has what it takes to cement themselves as one of the EPL elites.
