Indeed, Starmer named this morning whilst head of the CPS apparently.

It's noticeable that the Conservative upper echelons aren't going after Starmer - because it appears to be bunk.

It's not exactly news that Starmer was DPP for some of the time.

Starmer's said that he doesn't remember seeing anything but is checking. The CPS as a whole reckon they may have seen 50 total and have only identified about 27 of them so far, so how many of what are fairly small individual cases would get to the DPP's desk? Not many, if any. 50 in 4 million (that was the number of total cases through the CPS under Starmer, so mentioned yesterday).

Why are the Government proposing a new law to clear the sub Post Masters?.
They own the PO, they could set aside one appeal court and tell the PO not to challenge any appeal. One barrister is then appointed to present all the cases (including the few who are guilty) and overturn the conviction overnight.
Yet again they seem to be (deliberately?) making everything overly complicated.

It's even worse than that. Only 3 cases have been identified as being brought by the CPS during Starmer's tenure as DPP. It's laughable, but entirely predictable, that Farage and the usual outlets are trying to shovel some of the blame his way when it's abundantly clear who the real culprits are.

because thats all the governments understands is the optics of the situation, the actual situation doesnt concern them in any way shape or form and their response is lets just do something big and flashy but ultimately pointless so it seems like we have a handle on things

You’re correct, however knowing management like I do their rationale would have been that the new system was now catching the crooks and it was brilliant, they’d have been asking how much went in before the new system was introduced.

I get that, and having worked in and around cash businesses for much of my adult life I’ve pretty much seen it all. I know the tricks of the trade far better than Paula Vennels did or ever will.

In fact it’s worth stating that the putative MO of these SP’s bore fee or none of the classic signs of skimming. People don’t skim thousands of pounds in a day.

My point remains that previously (and demonstrably) honest people don’t become dishonest in those overwhelming numbers. It just doesn’t stand to reason.
