Mr Bates vs the Post Office

What Scargill said was going to happen, happened
Thatcher held a real grudge against the miners because they brought down the Tory government in the early 70's and she was hell bent on revenge
Scargill was an absolute power hungry ****, who thought he could do the same. The general public still had the winter of discontent stuck firmly in their minds and Scargill was another confrontationalist union leader attempting to grind the country to a halt
If the miners had someone more charismatic as their leader who appealed to the general public, I'm certain they would have won
The industry was caput bring in mind the huge open cast workings coming on-line across the world.
Scargil wanted a political conflict and got one. So instead of getting a great deal for the workforce and for investment in coal mining areas, he got a political war - that Thatcher was only too pleased to join in with.

Much as I have strong views about Scargill and the NUM, I don’t think we should let the thread go off piste and get too right versus left. Any parallels with the coal strike are tenuous at best but that didn‘t stop some opportunist from chucking it into the mix.

Some of us, myself included, avoid the politics forum because it’s infested with fanatics. This thread, on the other hand, has been really interesting and relatively impartial to date.

The post office have announced that they have asked the chairman to stand down atthe behest of the government - but he's only been there since December 2022 so had absolutely nothing to do with the scandal so what's the point?

BBC claiming his removal wasn't linked to the scandal even though he was specifically appointed to "right the wrongs of the scandal". But it could be absolutely anything as Kemi Bad Enoch is the government minister involved

Apparently, according to their HR information system he started in 1970 and they weren’t made aware of any discrepancies.

Spin the bottle. Sack someone. Anyone, that'll cure it.

She clearly doesnt have a clue what or who is responsible, just sack someone to shut the newspapers up.

1. The post office continues to attempt conceal the truth, I've lost count of the amount of times the judicial hearing has had to pause to deal with disclosure issues by the post office-most recently just 2 weeks ago.
2. The post office is an integral part of the compensation scheme, thus far only 2 people have received full and final compensation.

Cunts.

probably recruited by the home office by now, fits the profile, master of the "evade, deny divert" tactics they demand. Will have to brush up on his "smirk" though.

As a fully paid up cynic of all politicians, my view is that since some of the appalling behaviour is now beginning to creep under the door of HMG minister, they are trying to appear pro-active. Frantic COBRA meeting, "Let's sack a few PO board members, any one will do, just make it look good"

When is that cow in charge getting grilled? It’s dropped off the news now as it inevitably would but I want to watch her getting shit.

The issue of bonuses paid out on fictitious profits is worse than insider dealing.

gets worse and worse - Fujitsu seem to be only attracting a bit of the flak when it was their system that brought about this fucking shitshow
