I give to you my fellow blues.
So raise your dram, and raise some more.

“For a’ that”

Is there for honest Poverty
That hings his head, an' a' that;
The coward slave-we pass him by,
We dare be poor for a' that!
For a' that, an' a' that.
Our toils obscure an' a' that,
The rank is but the guinea's stamp,
The Man's the gowd for a' that.

What though on hamely fare we dine,
Wear hoddin grey, an' a that;
Gie fools their silks, and knaves their wine;
A Man's a Man for a' that:
For a' that, and a' that,
Their tinsel show, an' a' that;
The honest man, tho' e'er sae poor,
Is king o' men for a' that.

Ye see yon birkie, ca'd a lord,
Wha struts, an' stares, an' a' that;
Tho' hundreds worship at his word,
He's but a coof for a' that:
For a' that, an' a' that,
His ribband, star, an' a' that:
The man o' independent mind
He looks an' laughs at a' that.

A prince can mak a belted knight,
A marquis, duke, an' a' that;
But an honest man's abon his might,
Gude faith, he maunna fa' that!
For a' that, an' a' that,
Their dignities an' a' that;
The pith o' sense, an' pride o' worth,
Are higher rank than a' that.

Then let us pray that come it may,
(As come it will for a' that,)
That Sense and Worth, o'er a' the earth,
Shall bear the gree, an' a' that.
For a' that, an' a' that,
It's coming yet for a' that,
That Man to Man, the world o'er,
Shall brothers be for a' that.

Enjoying my whiskey tonight, hope you all are too.

Fucking gibberish they all get excited about up here despite not understanding a fucking word of it these days.

My favourite
Sung beautifully by the incomparable Karen Mathieson and written by RB.

Ae Fond Kiss

Ae fond kiss, and then we sever;
Ae fareweel, alas, for ever!
Deep in heart-wrung tears I'll pledge thee,
Warring sighs and groans I'll wage thee.
Who shall say that Fortune grieves him,
While the star of hope she leaves him?
Me, nae cheerful twinkle lights me;
Dark despair around benights me.

I'll ne'er blame my partial fancy,
Naething could resist my Nancy:
But to see her was to love her;
Love but her, and love for ever.
Had we never lov'd sae kindly,
Had we never lov'd sae blindly,
Never met-or never parted,
We had ne'er been broken-hearted.

Fare-thee-weel, thou first and fairest!
Fare-thee-weel, thou best and dearest!
Thine be ilka joy and treasure,
Peace, Enjoyment, Love and Pleasure!
Ae fond kiss, and then we sever!
Ae fareweeli alas, for ever!
Deep in heart-wrung tears I'll pledge thee,
Warring sighs and groans I'll wage thee.

True story. I was driving my two granddaughters back from School yesterday and I asked the youngest (7) what she thought of RB.
‘I really don’t like him’ she says.
‘Why not’ says me.
‘Because he steals from people and then sets them on fire’
Thinks ‘what the fuck’
‘Well he is called Rob(by) Burns’ she says and chuckles all the way home.

No one likes a smart arse.

Had haggis for my tea, nowt scottish about me, but I do like haggis and so why not.

Let's be honest Burns may be Scotlands most famous and favourite son, but he inspired some of Englands greatest romantic poets and was patriotic about both Scotland and Britain as a united nation, the fuckwits in the SNP tend to not mention that bit.

So raise a glass of whiskey to the man, also we all sing his song on NYE worldwide
