And as if by magic, Wilco pops up on my iPod

I get a lot of grief from mates (and my missus, who usually shares my taste in music) for my love of this band ..... from their early New York Dolls/Trash days, right through to their masterpiece final album, Tin Drum.

Mick Karn was a phenomenal, distinctive bass player. (RIP)

I've got six of their albums; plus a couple of Dave's solo ones.

Yes, I was well into them in the early 80s and saw them several times at the Apollo, first time the evening following the Spuds 1 - 1 FA cup final. Mick Khan was just a phenomenal musician all round, but here is a clip of his fretless bass work. Try to ignore the shite poetry.

Wilco are so, so good and Geoff Tweedie is such a great musician and songwriter. To add to your Americana artists: Howe Gelb (Giant Sand) and the Willard Grant Conspiracy, another band who are, sadly, now defunct following the death of frontman/singer/songwriter/occasional guitarist Robert Fisher in 2017.

I’m probably the one in the office with the strangest, and widest taste in music.
Quite partial to a meaty riff, be that guitar, or sax, I used to frequent the mosh pit in my younger days ( not that I couldn’t give these youngsters a run for their money even at 49) I’ve been to the jazz cafe for gigs ( sans moshing, just some sedate swaying)
So, here’s a list of real bands that I do listen to

Bongripper
Death Grips
The Young Gods
Swans
Kamasi Washington
Terminal Cheesecake
Fugazi
!!! ( chk, chk, chk)
Run The Jewels
Danny Brown
Flying Lotus
Aesop Rock ( not Rocky)
