My first car was a Nissan Primera in granddad green. Really unfashionable but never broke down in 4 years. People always warned me about the repair costs of Japanese cars, but if they never break down, it doesn't really matter. The only things I replaced were generic stuff like tyres and the battery. Not bad for a grand.

Mine was a Rover Metro (they've re badged it you fool) bought for £250. The insurance was £1,000!

My first car - although in reality, it was actually my Mum's - was a 1968 Mini Countryman van :)

First car I bought myself was a Vauxhall Corsa...

Best car I've had was an Alfa 147..... and so that would be my answer to your question: should be able to pick up a 2nd hand Alfa well within your budget, and they are fab to drive :)

I'm 23 and passed my test when I was 17. Never had a car, don't interest me in the slightest. Rather spend my money on going out and holidays.

so why did you do the test

So I can drive the works vans.
