Have you tried holding F8 when you turn it on, and then selecting 'Safe Mode' to see if it will let you boot windows ?

If you can't get windows to boot you may have a bigger job than you think on your hands.

I had a similar problem after an automatic update fooked my system up big time. I reloaded windows which fixed the problem, and didn't loose any of my data.

I think you may well find that your Hard Drive has given up, I had a very similar experience recently, the IT guys at work managed to recover most of my data.

Best of luck !

If it has then it can be resolved if you're lucky. Try booting from an original windows XP disc and pressing any key when told to do so to boot from CD. Then wait for the setup program to load, and press "R" to enter the recover console. When asked which installation to log on to, press "1" and then type your password (if you had one) then press enter.

Wait for the command prompt, then type:

chkdsk /f

This will repair as much of the drive as it possibly can. Once this has done type in the following command, pressing enter after each:

fixboot

fixmbr

(The only space that should be put in these commands it between the chkdsk and the /f, no other spaces are needed)

This will repair the drive and then re-write the boot sector of the drive so that necessary files are put back in place.

Best of luck with that.
