Apologies for being pedantic but it's a narrow boat isn't it? The Vikings had longboats!
One of my mates does narrowboat holidays all the time. Requires a bit of planning & patience but he really seems to enjoy it.

Been on a few and they are a superb holiday. Lots of pubs and a bit of exercise, all at a slow, relaxing pace. Have a look at 'Canal Boat Diaries' on the iPlayer.

Couldn't recommend it highly enough.

Middlewich folk and boat festival in a months time some lovely narrow boats turn up.

Did a week a few years back on started on the Avon canal and cruised along the grand union canal, one of my favourite holidays, as others have said plenty of pubs and a very slow pace.
