Arsenal ready to cup-tie Samir Nasri for Champions League at Udinese

guardian.co.uk, Monday 22 August 2011 22.30 BST

Samir Nasri is due to fly to Italy with the Arsenal squad on Tuesday before the critical second leg of the Champions League play-off against Udinese despite the fact that his participation in the tie could jeopardise his £22m move to Manchester City.

The France international's transfer to Eastlands remains on hold with negotiations continuing over a mooted payment of around £3m in agents fees that would inflate the deal to nearer £25m. The prospect of Nasri, who was suspended for the first leg at the Emirates, being cup-tied in the Champions League would represent "a big problem" according to the City manager, Roberto Mancini, though Arsène Wenger, impressed with the 24-year-old's display against Liverpool on Saturday, is mindful only of his club securing passage into the lucrative group stage.

Significant progress would have to be made on the deal within the next 24 hours if Nasri is to be withdrawn from participation to complete his move, with Wenger inclined to start the midfielder − who has indicated he does not intend to sign a new deal at the Emirates Stadium once his contract expires next summer − if he is still available for selection

25 million seems fair, when you look what other players have gone for in this window.

You are ignoring how long he has left on his contract. 25 million does not seem such a great deal compared to signing him for nothing if we wait 12 months.

its ridiculas amount of wonga for a player with 12 months left to go on a contract - and if he stays and goes on a free next year he can expect even more in terms of signing on fees and agents fees because there will be no transfer free involved

That would propably explain why his agents are being twats and he dont appear to be that arsed about coming

how many years left had young and downing?

I know we have to start playing hardball but considering the money we have spunked over the past two seasons then running the risk of losing out on a player that will definitely influence our season for the sake of 3m seems very strange.

Obviously Mancini feels he needs him now and for this season, and i trust him. Also, if we let his contract run out there will more than likely be more competition for his signature.

He is just to good to let go because of 3 million. We need another "silva" and there are no others like him except Nasri out there for sale.
