I like Ned but he's 22 now and he needs to be showing he's worth keeping every time he plays. Hughes will only be keeping the best of the ex-academy lads and with us supposed to be spending £XXXm's he has to prove he can be relied upon to be at least a decent squad player even if he won't make the first team.
The only good thing about the takeover for the ex-academy players is with the EUFA & CL rules about home-grown players then a couple may get a bit more leeway. We could always end up doing like the current big 4 though and just nominate 5/6 x 16/17 year-olds from the youth and reserve teams and never have any intention of playing them in the competitions.
I think he has the potential and 16 U21 caps shows this, I just want to see him push on now or I'm afraid he may end up leaving us.
