Black South Africans can now have a say in how their country is run and by whom. The fact that they choose poorly is irrelevant, the fact they are able to make that choice is a testament to the man's courage, integrity, and belief in his conviction that universal suffrage is a basic human right worth fighting for.
One of my nieces was briefly married to a South African. They were round at ours having a few drinks and he mentioned how much he hated Mandela for taking away his uni place and how he was a terrorist. A friend of mine(who was black) asked how he was a terrorist.
He replied "He killed 27 white people at a train station" The room went quiet while his mrs tentatively told him that perhaps he was being racist by emphasising that the 27 people who were killed in the explosion were white. With a completely straight face he said "But he did kill 27 white people, black people weren't allowed on train stations"

A good point well made. Doesn't change the fact he killed 27 people at a train station though.
I've never met a nice South African.
