Sorry about the mundane topic but im looking to buy a new car, i don't know much about car's and just want reliable & pretty cheap to run. i need one that has got enough room for all the stuff that come's with a 2 year old and a newborn baby, i'm thinking of a Renault Scenic Estate, does anyone have any good/bad report's of these cars or some advice of on what best to buy. i've got about £5000 to spend.

£5k? For a Renault Scenic estate? I think you're in for a nasty shock!

Check out Hyundai ...... they do new vehicles fairly cheap in comparison to other car manufacturers , and they offer long warranties too ....... other than that think Toyota for reliability .... used vehicles probably for that kind of budget though.

Renault aren't bad , but french vehicles have questionable reliablity ... and you're probably gonna be looking at a second hand vehicle of the model you mention for the budget that you have available.

Or look around for a used Volvo ..... these Swedish cars are usually very roomy and very reliable into the bargain.

good advices... can add Mazda to reliability... Seat and Kia makes cheap cars but wouldnt buy any off them... french cars are made to last around 150000km then to buy a new one... Just kidding but there are some truth to it... Saab and Volvo are reliable... roomy as BM said... not cheap to drive tho... I would go for japanese for cheap to drive and reliability

I've got a dark blue Toyota Avensis (like the one in the photo) ....... good car , bit sluggish on the acceleration from the 'off' , but starts first time and appears ultra reliable (so far!) ...... this car appears to be a huge favourite with cab drivers which probably says somethin' for its reliablity.

Good sized boot , sat nav ..... an' quite roomy inside the cab too.

that is a good car... when i bought my Volvo s40 3 years ago i choosed between Avensis and Volvo but got a good deal on my Volvo and the Avensis had a bump on it that i didnt like... Very happy with my Volvo but my next car will be a Toyota Prius (hybridcar with both gas and electric)... do you have that car in England?

Prius is on sale here at Toyota dealerships ..... looks a good car.

They do the hybrid version ........ with an 8 year warranty on hybrid parts .

Should imagine they do the hybrid version .
Prius is the hybrid version... very cheap to drive and great second value... its supposed to be just as good as a Avensis when it comes to motor capacity...

I've got a 4yr + 2yr old so been where you are now. Vauxhall Zafira, it does exactly what it says on the tin. Loads of space, very economical and (tempting fate here) it's never let me down. Also the wife likes it because you don't have to bend down too far to put baby in the car seat due to it having a slightly elevated rear seat. Good luck.

Honda Accord Estate

These are really roomy inside, reliable, superb drive, super efficient and over engineered so it will run for years.

However whether you can get one for 5K, i dont know.

My cousin is a mechanic and he tells me that they are the best car on the road.

My mate bought one in the late nineties from a bloke he knew ..... it had 200,000 miles on the clock !

Almost ten years later and it's still takin' him to Devon and back every year!
