New CFG team

Interesting if they're renaming it Cape Town City, since the club is based a long way from Cape Town. I'm not generally a huge fan of the idea of CFG uprooting teams.

Edit: Apparently it's the club's new owner who is relocating the club before seeking some kind of CFG incorporation. I'm still a little uneasy on it, though.

Edit: Now I'm really confused. According to the below message from Black Aces' departing owners, the club not relocating was a condition of the sale, so what's going on here?

Mpumalanga Black Aces have appointed Eric Tinkler as their new coach on a three-year deal.

The former Bafana Bafana midfielder has effectively swapped jobs withMuhsin Ertugral, who will guide Orlando Pirates in the coming season.

Tinkler steered Bucs to a seventh-placed finish in the league and the finals of the CAF Confederation Cup and Nedbank Cup in his first head coaching role in 2015/16.

John Comitis - who recently bought Aces and relocated the club to Cape Town - said in a statement: "I John Comitis is happy to disclose and announce that the head coach of the new club in Cape Town will be Eric Tinkler.

"It is seldom that you find a South African head coach that has played at the highest level of football in the EPL and in the Serie A League. But to add to that he has the highest level of qualification - UEFA Pro License. We have committed ourselves to a three-year contract and we are positive that his experience coupled with his knowledge will assist us to build this club from the ground up.

"His recent success in the African Cup are well documented and this bodes well with our future ambitions.

"Eric Tinkler, Cape Town welcomes you!"

AmaZayoni came fourth in the league under Ertugral last term - their highest ever placing in the PSL.

The site I link to claims to be the online home of the biggest football publication in Africa and they quote the new owner as saying: "Regarding the link with the City Group, we first need to stabilise our PSL team. Once that is done then all these opportunities can be explored. I need to finalise the decision on the club's name, too." Doesn't look like much of a denial, though suggests an announcement may not be imminent. Isn't the existing Cape Town side an Ajax feeder club, incidentally?

EDIT - looks like the guy who's just taken over the club used to be CEO at Ajax Cape Town and fell out with the current CEO. Ajax Cape Town say they're "unperturbed" about the prospect of a rival club coming to the city.

sorry that this will not go down well but i find this sort of hoovering up of clubs rather disturbing. rather us than them etc....

This feels very wrong, imagine if this happened to us in the dark days, we could have become Real Wolverhampton CF, Bayern Chester, or Rotherham Saint Germain!
