New Dr Who

I thought it was great again tonight and I have struggled to give a toss for years - think it helps for all these characters being reactivated from when I was a kid.

I do think the concept of a govt being useless and not giving a toss about its populace is a bit far fetched though lol

Haven't watched in for 20-30 years (since Tom Baker time) but after reading about it thought I'd give it a go again tonight. Was shocked at how poor it was but that is probably due to the long gap between watching and false expectations.

Pretty awful TV and not something I'd ever want to watch again but obviously has plenty of fans, so must be doing something right.

The Eccleston episodes and early Tennant ones had some decent stories but it disappeared up its own arse quite quickly.

I will be honest I liked the eccleston stuff and early tennant but RTD obsession with the doctor falling in love and having a human family unit bored me to tears also tennat grated as time went on and he ruined the master with sims shite take (thankfully Jacobi, Gomez and Dhawan were great at it), Moffat taking over for a period brought the best companions in NuWho in Amy, Rory, River, Clara and Bill (nardole was shite mind) and Capaldi is the best Doctor of the reboot though let down by scripts in 50% of his run, even when moffat did the doctor having companions that are like family he made it part of an actual story arc not some soppy soap opera cliche of RTDs years.

Moffat though as with sherlock gets to smug for his own good though and disapears up his own arse in beimg clever

Tennant in these 3 specials has been fine and what was needed, but I never really want to see his doctor again unless in rewatching old episodes and the and ulst get back to weekly episode and a series arc

Chibnal, lets just forget that shite and I feel sorry for jodie who did a best as the scripts gave her

I watched it out of a sort of loyalty up to Peter Capaldi who was great except for that naff guitar and sunglasses stuff. Never gave the last doctor a chance as it doesn’t matter who plays it now, it’s written for viewing figures and to cash in so has lost that freedom of its early days. After a while you realise time travel is all a load of shite anyway and the more stories and messing around with it the more it doesn’t add up.

I didn’t like Moffat’s Sherlock either.

Time travel is a load of shite? Fuck, you’ll be telling us next there’s no such person as Father Christmas

Moffats sherlock was surely bobbins to anyone who grew up on Jeremy Bretts perfect portrayal.

but moffat is a good story teller, from early days when he made coupling.

I mean the whole river song arc is well a well crafted love story and alex kingston is a great actress who bounces off every doctor perfectly, where you get the Rose teen angst crush bollocks from RTD with no deep romance to it just soppy pulp googley eyes at each other shite .

We know h the doctor had a family, kids and Susan his grand daughter if you are going to do a doctor love story do an adult serious one, and moffat did that(I can rewatch the husbands of river song where kingston and capaldi excell and then want to watch silence in the library straight after)

I prefer the doctor to be aloof or clueless to humanity and emotions, old who was Sci-fi and fantasy with a doctor who was always a little alien, RTD binned that afrer eccleson, moffat kind of brought it back but then huberis kicked in.

2025 is the 20th anniversary of RTD's reboot.

I have a feeling Tennant will be back and the bi generation that occured will be closed. Possibly with Ncuti's regeneration.

Theres rumours that's why they've filmed two seasons already because he's a rising star and the US have already signed up for a couple of major film roles.

Moffat’s Sherlock was bobbins to every previous version, bar maybe the Christopher Lee low budget ones. He didn’t get the character at all in my view.
