I bought a new build house 6 years ago, the housebuilder sold the ground rent on to another extortionate outfit. I believe i have to pay them to allow me to build an extension. If i just build it anyway what do you think the ramifications could be ?

I'd think they could take you to court and force you to have it taken down.
Probably much easier to pay it - or move to a bigger house

Move to a bigger house is cost prohibitive these days, i begrudge paying circa £2k for them to say yes you can extend your own house !

I thought the government had announced a while ago that they were clamping down on unfair leasehold practices?

For all new new builds. I believe existing ones are stuck with the problem. It's scandalous.
