I found out last week that I will be made redundant in the next week or so. Got called in for a "chat" and was then told that my job is going and now I have a week left. I'm pretty gutted about this as the timing is completely shite.

I work in account management/field sales selling to builders merchants and the like. There doesnt seem to be anything around at the moment in the North West area everything is in the midlands and loads in the south.

If anyone knows of anything then I would appreciate any help.

I originally got my current job by just sending in a prospective CV to a company that I knew of, then they offered me an interview for the job I currently have. So if anyone else is on the lookout I would recommend going down this same route, definetely worth a try.

Sorry to hear this pal!
Horrible situation to be in.
Maybe try some agencies who specialise in this area?
Other than that, all I can off is my good wishes....
Hope it all works out ok for you!

I feel for you mate, but can't help in the job sector that you are in unfortunately.

We have not had the news yet to confirm our redundancy but we have to train some Polish lads to take our jobs, transformation to near shore services :(

Hope you find something soon, remember that as one door closes another opens.

Good luck mate

Thanks blues, I've been applying for loads of jobs but they all seem to be through agencies and I think you just get lost in their systems sometimes. Its been a few years now sine I was last on the lookout and things have changed loads, all recruitment consultants and agencies now with probably made up jobs to get you into them.

They have done some restructuring at our place and September is a busy month for trade shows so they have got me to do these then break the news to me! Snide c**ts.

I know what you mean about doors opening etc as the jobs I have been looking at are a lot better paid than my current role so fingers crossed.

Sorry to hear this mate.

Try and get your CV revised and more modern. Every few years the style and buzzwords change.
It helps make yours stick out.

Good luck anyhow.

You've had to train someone else up to take your job? If we have to let someone go here then we'll ask them to leave immediately and take care of any training and development ourselves. It can be a pain but that's pretty humiliating... Unless I've misread?

Marky: That's business, mate. From their perspective, your role is no longer needed so you'll be made redundant. Even if the decision was made by someone who has no comprehension of what you do then it's their burden to carry. Try and get a name of a recruitment person you deal with and keep in close contact with them. I imagine they're forever being messed around by people who have no intention of taking the job they're offering so someone available and willing will be welcome. Good luck.

It sounds it. However, you'd harm any pay off if you didn't comply. If someone influential has left ours because of politics then we soldier on regardless without them as they're given 5 minutes to pack their things and go. They could have the contacts, knowledge etc but it's irrelevant. I'd much rather the departing person did the handover but it's not always possible.
