New Lappie just staring at me

bought a new laptop today. Got 8.1 on it. Tried to download Latest Windows updates before downloading Windows 10.
It downloaded everything, but failed to complete, so now it's unloading all the changes and is just sat there.been doing it for ages now.
It says dont switch off. Is it stuck or will it eventually go back to as was.
Any help welcomed from the tekkies

Its sorted itself, will start updates again.

Why are you updating 8.1 if you're going to stick Win 10 on it?

Ffs meeesh had this hassle and it really fucked his lappy up, corrupted system files and all sorts. He has bad disk sectors which does not help either.

@meeesh you about bud can finish yurs today, been working and getting in late :-(
