Just seen there are a series of minor rule changes for the coming season.

What caught my eye was the future use of VAR and how they are confidently predicting how many times it will be used in cup competitions where, if I remember correctly, the draw is supposedly random.

'However, it will be applied in FA Cup and Carabao Cup games played in Premier League stadiums. That will increase its usage to 60 games in 2018-19, up from 19 games which used VAR in 2017-18'.

Not such a random draw after all!

This one will get Pep banned. I guarentee it.

Technology in the technical area

You may spot coaching staff playing on their iPads during matches this season after a new rule allowing technology to be used in technical areas was passed.

While the tablets can't be used to argue about decisions with officials, it does allow coaches the chance to show tactical videos to substitutes or analyse live clips and data during the game.

They’re probably taking an average of ties played at Premier League grounds over the last few seasons.

Still no published referee's match reports?

Why aim for better discourse between the fans and the game when you can save a few water bottles from getting kicked sure.

I do like the change for yellow cards only counting in that specific competition. It’s a shame red cards for non-violent conduct aren’t used in the same way.

I like the no-extra time. I think ET is a hazard to players’ wellbeing [injuries] these days. They are so finely tuned to play a high level game for 90 minutes that they aren’t trained for 120 minutes. The game is so far ahead of what it was decades ago when the games were so slow you could have played for three hours at a time. They are 90 minute specialist athletes (some don’t last that long, did you ever see Joe Cole complete a football game? He was always substituted before the end).

It’s like you wouldn’t see a 100m specialist running the 400m at a top athletics competition because he’s a 100m specialist.

PiGMOL being protected to continue their work of manipulating matches for the tv and brand.
