As you can probably tell, the new version of the site (the fifth incarnation of Bluemoon) has finally gone live. You can probably question the wisdom of launching it after midnight on a Thursday night, but I was keen to get the new site in place with minimum disruption to users.

The new design is a bit cleaner and more modern than the old design, but essentially the functionality is the same so it should be relatively straightforward to familiarise yourselves with it. If you're unsure what any icons signify, just hover over them with your mouse.

The main advantage is that it is fully reponsive, making it much easier to use on both mobiles and tablets as well as desktops. I appreciate however that some people may prefer the old style, so I've made a (slightly updated) version of that available for anyone who so desires. Simply go to User Control Panel > Board preferences > My board style and choose "subsilver2" from the dropdown list.

The main actual site has also been redesigned and rebuilt, and you can see it here:

http://www.bluemoon-mcfc.co.uk

Again, the new design is cleaner and a bit less cluttered, and is responsive so that it works much better on mobile phones and tablets. The plan is to produce much more content on the main site, with far more articles (including news and opinion pieces).

Anyway, I won't ramble on as I'm a bit delirious from working daft hours over the last two months to get this ready in time for the new season. Please have a play around with both the main site and the forum, and let me know what you think - any suggestions or feedback, either positive or negative, are welcomed.

There will undoubtedly be a few glitches here and there, so if you could let me know anything amiss that you notice it'd be greatly appreciated. I'll get any issues fixed asap.

Hope you like it, as it's been incredibly time consuming to implement but it's a relief to finally go live with it.

Cheers,
Ric

Edit: As it's getting late, and there are still a few glitches that need fixing, I've reverted to the slightly updated version of the old style for now until I can address some of the issues, as it's a bit more stable.

Anyone wanting to try the new style can do so in their User Control Panel > Board preferences by selecting "Metro Blue" as your board style.

If you're experiencing any layout glitches please try refreshing your browser and clearing your cache.

Edit Saturday, 3rd August 1.15am

Many of the glitches have been resolved now, but if you notice anything amiss, or anything that you think could be improved just let me know either on this thread, by PM and email ric@bluemoon-mcfc.co.uk and I'll see what can be done.

Once I'm happy that it's stable enough, I'll be switching everyone over by default to the next style (at the moment only guests and those who have switched style themselves are seeing the new design). Users will still have the option to switch back to the old style (subsilver2) in the User Control Panel, but it'll be a case of opting out rather than opting in. I appreciate many users prefer the old layout (and I was fond of it myself), but for the sake of modernity, consistency etc I'll be focusiing more attention on the new layout. I'll continue to support and update the old style when required though. Cheers.

Looks really nice but could do with an option to 'view as desktop' when using a mobile browser for the more powerful mobiles

DAYUUUUUM! This ish looks official. :-)

Thank you, Ric, for everything.

I had to clear my cookies for it to show up properly, though.

Love the look of it. How can I turn off addblock for certain websites though?

If you use firefox

Enable your menu bar by right clicking on the blue space near your URL bar. Should give you the option for the Menu Bar. Turn it on if you don't have one.

Tools->Adblock Plus->Disable on forums.bluemoon-mcfc.co.uk

I like how the search feature is easily accessible. Good stuff.

-- Thu Aug 01, 2013 8:44 pm --

It's glitching a little bit for me, switching between the old and new layout.

Was going to be quite damning of the upgrade till I realised I'd been set to the really crappy basic one automatically.

Though I don't like the toolbar layout. I'd like the view your posts down in the black toolbar next to the mark forums read as that's where I go automatically when I browse.

Also having a toolbar to link straight back to any forum at the top would have been a nice touch.

It does look clean though, it's usability will come in actually plowing through the site.

Does this mean the forum will run quicker even when busy?

P.s. everything's moved, I don't like my name and info being on the right and my edit buttons should be at the bottom :(.

Stop messing about Ric...god, how do you think the old farts are going to cope with this? ;).
