As you can probably tell, the new version of the site (the fifth incarnation of Bluemoon) has finally gone live. You can probably question the wisdom of launching it after midnight on a Thursday night, but I was keen to get the new site in place with minimum disruption to users.
The new design is a bit cleaner and more modern than the old design, but essentially the functionality is the same so it should be relatively straightforward to familiarise yourselves with it. If you're unsure what any icons signify, just hover over them with your mouse.
The main advantage is that it is fully reponsive, making it much easier to use on both mobiles and tablets as well as desktops. I appreciate however that some people may prefer the old style, so I've made a (slightly updated) version of that available for anyone who so desires. Simply go to User Control Panel > Board preferences > My board style and choose "subsilver2" from the dropdown list.
The main actual site has also been redesigned and rebuilt, and you can see it here:
<a class="postlink" href="http://www.bluemoon-mcfc.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.bluemoon-mcfc.co.uk</a>
Again, the new design is cleaner and a bit less cluttered, and is responsive so that it works much better on mobile phones and tablets. The plan is to produce much more content on the main site, with far more articles (including news and opinion pieces).
Anyway, I won't ramble on as I'm a bit delirious from working daft hours over the last two months to get this ready in time for the new season. Please have a play around with both the main site and the forum, and let me know what you think - any suggestions or feedback, either positive or negative, are welcomed.
There will undoubtedly be a few glitches here and there, so if you could let me know anything amiss that you notice it'd be greatly appreciated. I'll get any issues fixed asap.
Hope you like it, as it's been incredibly time consuming to implement but it's a relief to finally go live with it.
Cheers,
Ric
Edit: As it's getting late, and there are still a few glitches that need fixing, I've reverted to the slightly updated version of the old style for now until I can address some of the issues, as it's a bit more stable.
Anyone wanting to try the new style can do so in their User Control Panel > Board preferences by selecting "Metro Blue" as your board style.
If you're experiencing any layout glitches please try refreshing your browser and clearing your cache.
Edit Saturday, 3rd August 1.15am
Many of the glitches have been resolved now, but if you notice anything amiss, or anything that you think could be improved just let me know either on this thread, by PM and email ric@bluemoon-mcfc.co.uk and I'll see what can be done.
Once I'm happy that it's stable enough, I'll be switching everyone over by default to the next style (at the moment only guests and those who have switched style themselves are seeing the new design). Users will still have the option to switch back to the old style (subsilver2) in the User Control Panel, but it'll be a case of opting out rather than opting in. I appreciate many users prefer the old layout (and I was fond of it myself), but for the sake of modernity, consistency etc I'll be focusiing more attention on the new layout. I'll continue to support and update the old style when required though. Cheers.
