Trying not to get my hopes too high for this.....so many years since they released an album with original singer (and ultimate rock frontman) 'Diamond' Dave Lee Roth at the helm....don't get me wrong here, for me DLR WAS Van Halen as much as Eddie back in the day.
And his first two solo albums were pure class. (Eat Em & Smile and Skyscraper...both featuring the man who actually bettered EVH....Steve Vai on guitar and killer bassist Billy Sheehan...couldn't fail with those two on board!)
However, not even I will argue he was the better actual singer between him and his replacement Sammy Hagar.
Even way back then, David Lee Roth's strong point was his amazing stage antics and presence, even at his peak his vocals 'live' could be somewhat 'erratic' and from what I have heard of the recent live stuff, he is struggling to even reach those standards...... So here's hoping studio trickery can help him do an album we VH fans will be happy to hear.
