New Years Honours list

L S Lowry, Albert Finney, David Bowie, Alan Bennett, Danny Boyle all turned down honours. Not to mention Stephen Hawking, Peter Higgs, Rudyard Kipling. Some huge names there and loads more I left out.

That said I wouldn’t mind any of them accepting because they are legends in their own fields. Gareth Southgate getting one is a piss take. He should just get a participation medal and told to do one.

The common quality with all those who refused is intelligence, which sums up succintly those who lick boot to receive the "honours".

I'm not envious of anyone getting a gong it doesn't affect me, sometimes the people who complain about the honours forget that every country on the planet hands them out.

I didn't know that
So there is an equivalent of a Sir or Dame in every country
MBE, OBE that sort of thing

It's just named differently, there are sycophants in every country cosying up to the rich and powerful. Each system has its movers and shakers.

It's as if people wilfully believe that the royal family think for themselves about who gets the gongs and awards instead of the people we voted for awarding them
