It was the Leazes end we were searched at the gate for drink, we had to drink our bottles of Newcastle Brown before we could go in, a great day only bettered by 2012I got my Dad out of bed at 6-00 am and we simply drove there. It took ages. TBH I'm not sure if the M62 existed but if it did it only went as far as Outlane. Anyway, we got there, went in the covered end. (Leazes?)
It was a great game, and I was so young and naive that the possibility we might lose never crossed my mind. Seemed like 15 m each way, never known a game pass so quickly.
I honestly think there were as many City fans as Newcastle in that ground.
We got home in time to watch Rags get beat by Sunderland on TV. An unforgettable day, and one that could never be replicated. Now you would need 60,000,000 loyalty points and a ticket booked weeks in advance.
