Newcastle 11th May 1968 let's have your memories...

Not my memory… but …

my dad went up with the junction pub in cheadle hulme.

one thing that always stuck out for him was how amazing the geordies were that day, buying blues drinks etc
Fuckers took it out on us in the fa cup game 1977 ish

I was 15 and at the Manor watching Oxford beat Southport to clinch the 3rd division title. There were a few people with radios around giving conflicting score updates, none of which I trusted. Sprinted away at the final whistle to the Redifussion shop on the London Road to watch through the window as the scores came up on the Teleprinter. Newcastle United 3, oh shit……

I got my Dad out of bed at 6-00 am and we simply drove there. It took ages. TBH I'm not sure if the M62 existed but if it did it only went as far as Outlane. Anyway, we got there, went in the covered end. (Leazes?)

It was a great game, and I was so young and naive that the possibility we might lose never crossed my mind. Seemed like 15 m each way, never known a game pass so quickly.

I honestly think there were as many City fans as Newcastle in that ground.

We got home in time to watch Rags get beat by Sunderland on TV. An unforgettable day, and one that could never be replicated. Now you would need 60,000,000 loyalty points and a ticket booked weeks in advance.
