Newcastle (H) Post Match Thread

Dhiino's is another worry and has been very sloppy in possession. With the Dippers coming up we have work to do to be ready for a very important game.

I think our best central midfield right now would be Gundogon behind the two Silvas.

Fernandinho has played a hell of a lot of football in recent years for a very demanding position, at both club and country. At 33 he's naturally in decline. He should be back up now not a regular starter.

I’m sorry but going off Dihno’s performance last year that’s absolute nonsense. We don’t have a midfielder who can do what he can do so how he’s now classed as “back up” I don’t know?

What is absolute nonsense is taking a previous seasons performance to decide whether a player should currently start.

It's still to early too judge things in my view. Clearly we were in the market for a longer term replacement for Ferandinho, but he isn't going to be easy to replace. Looking at Jorginho, he doesn't do what Ferna does, but he is very good in possession. We shouldn't panic buy or look to make statements like United seem to be doing. Pep has been on record as saying it is likely to be the back end of September and into October before we're hitting the levels he's expecting.

Went to the game but don’t remember anything (too pissed).... How did Mendy and Mahrez get on?

I'm sure Gundogan gets thrown in out of habit he was very good when he came on. Think midfield looked a bit light before Gundogan and Bernardo came on it was more or less a midfield 2 of Fernandinho and Silva.
We can manage without KDB but think we need both Silvas in midfield.

It was a very attacking lineup and statement of intent yesterday but it effectively meant we had a midfield comprising of Ferna and Silva. I was happier when Bernardo came on and he surely has done enough to be an automatic first choice. Still feels like a lot of players are going the the pre season motions though.

Mendy not as effective going forward as in previous games, but they did make it very difficult and restricted the space for us to be effective. Mahrez had some good moments but still finding his feet in this team. Just needs time IMO to get himself established.

I don't think I've seen so many angry, overweight, red-faced middle aged men giving it large the other side of a fence and behind a row of police since the last pro-Brexit march. It's hard to take someone seriously when they want to fight but can barely stand up unaided. All us lot laughing at them just seemed to them them darker and darker purple, which made it even funnier.
I can only assume the couple of ambulances we heard later were shipping in dozens of defibrillators.
