Newcastle United (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

In some respects I was disappointed with the game last; delighted with the win of course but the barcodes were very poor. If the Viking had his shooting boots on we would have been out of sight. I like Eddie Howe and thought he was building a team to challenge but after last night I can't see it. We played them off the park and in the end their petulance showed with some awful fouls.
its hard to look good when you dont have the ball tbf to them, we toyed with them

Mate, I was seriously shitting myself about this match, & seeing the bench turned my shit to diarrhea!

I honestly didn't expect this exemplary professional performance, considering the team were rinsed on Wednesday.

I can't express how pleased I am with what I saw tonight. Newcastle tore Villa a second arsehole last week, & we basically controlled them like a puppet master.

Considering we're far from our best, & struggling for squad numbers, our opposition must be cacking their y-fronts!

Hopefully our injury situation will ease very soon, & we can seal deals for Paqueta & Doku to release some of the impending squad pressure when the CL, Carabao Cup & international breaks kick in.
I don't think we give ourselves enough credit.

When you actually had a look at Newcastles first 11 last night, how many would have actually started for us? Not a single player. We were just better all around the pitch and the quality told last night.

Kovacic has done far more at this stage of his City career than Gundo did.

I love Gundo, but for the first couple of seasons he was ordinary, he became a great player in his last 3 seasons.
He was younger and for the first couple of seasons he was either injured or recovering from a serious injury
Which isn't to crticise Kova he was superb but their starts can't really be compared.

At the end of the season results like last night make titles. Make absolutely no mistake, that was a very good Newcastle side and they will be contenders for the top 4 and in a couple of years maybe even the title.

We had to be in top form last night and we were. Our passing at times was just immense and it's also nice to see us playing the longer ball to Haaland too and on another day he'd have had a couple too.

Overall, after Wednesday and the travelling etc that's a superb result.

Foden was absolutely fantastic and ran the show. They literally didn't know what to do with him, his passing, movement and dribbling were top notch and I hope he can use KdBs absence to kick on as when he plays like that there's not stopping us.

COME ON CITY!

There was only one team in it for 70 minutes but Newcastle showed slightly more towards the end as we kept losing possession. That may well have been due to tiredness following the game on Wednesday, but we made the wrong choice of pass too often.
Having said that, the defence were excellent and didn't allow Newcastle to benefit from our errors, and we also created chances (Haaland and Foden) during that period.
As for subs, I think Pep prefers tired players who are carrying out his match tactics to changing the plans to accommodate fresh legs. We don't have a lot of like for like options so he kept the shape knowing we had a full week to recover.

I actually like Howe, good manager, he’s a well spoken respectful guy who never bad mouths his opponent (certainly from what I’ve seen in his post match City games interviews)
His team was set up to continually kick fuck out of our players yesterday, numerous high challenges. So yeah he might talk a nice game, but his team didn’t play one. A Pep team wouldn’t play that way, we both know that

Just thinking back to the game last night; how quiet was Tonali for them? Did absolutely nothing and they were better after he went off.
