As has been said before the changes made to the PL rules have had no effect at all so far and expire in mid-December. They appear clearly contrary to laws on fair competition and the situation is different to what it was under a year ago in that the case would be heard by UK courts where an injunction would suspend the rules until the case was heard. A ruling in favour of Newcastle would make life difficult for UEFA because Newcastle are unlikely to qualify for a UEFA competition so UEFA would find it hard to take any action under their rules, which do not preclude related deals any way. As competition law in the EU is identical to competition law in the UK the ECJ may accept the UK verdict as precedent and prohibit any "fair value" restriction on such deals. Should Newcastle broaden the attack in the UK courts to challenge the legality of the limit on owner investment UEFA would find its regulations ripped apart. UEFA may well be telling the PL not to push it but to ditch their new rule. But the Yanks didn't listen earlier when the Newcastle takeover was waved through.
