Agreed. If the American Redshirts got their way competition and quality would both take a dive and lower league professional football would really struggle.

I would have been severely disappointed if we were. I've defended City for various things over the years. The ESL was a step too far but we never keen on it and it never happened. But it did leave a scar. Joining the Hateful 8 and signing a similar letter with them would be the last straw- shorts or no shorts.

When I go to buy a 99 at an ice cream van, I don't question the bloke selling it whether he's kind to children and animals, or whether he's ever stolen from a little old lady, that's not the nature of my relationship with him. Does he sell me a delicious ice cream at a fair price, does he put a flake in it and does he give me the right change, that's what matters.

I don't like the cut of Jeff Bozo's jib, but he has some cracking offers on bourbon and I'm sure Swales was a lovely fella but he was a crap chairman.

In a world where we wander around buffeted by forces beyond our control, we set even more store by people and things that do what they say on the tin.

Our owners have delivered on their promises, they are excellent custodians of this club, that is the nature of my relationship with them, they run a club here and they adhere to our laws and cultural norms while they're doing it. If that's what PIF does at Newcastle, then the Toon Army are in for a ride, if they fuck up, it won't be because their money comes from Saudi Arabia, it'll be because they made bad decisions and they will be criticised accordingly.

Buying a 99 is an interesting analogy and one, in the main, that I agree with. However, when you say that you don't question whether the vendor is kind to children and animals, or whether he has stolen from an old lady, the emphasis is on the 'questioning.' If you knew the vendor was cruel to animals and children and that he did steal from old ladies, maybe even was a rag who liked using his van to knock over cyclists wearing the colours of Manchester City, would you still buy a 99 from him knowing all these things to be true?

Liverpool have done extremely well but it strikes me that they could lose out to clubs willing to spend more.

United are an ongoing mess. Arsenal aren't willing to spend enough. Tottenham will be there-abouts but I don't think Levy will spend enough for them to win the title.

It's the latest way of knocking City and us fans.
Despite the undeniable evidence of the istree books, trophy lists and attendances at high and low points City are not a 'properclub' and we are not proper fans.

I know what you mean, though...I've been putting people straight on some Youtube vids that claim: "at least Newcastle have history and fans". Only said by people that haven't a clue about English football and it's history, mind you. I just show them this:

Maybe, maybe not, but whatever decision I made, neither of them exist as either right or wrong.

Some are more long suffering than others (Newcastle/Sunderland) you could argue that phrase would be more apt for the mackems however, (rags/City), much as we enjoyed it we'd certainly fall into the long suffering pot.

The idea that every encounter we have, every transaction we make, must be weighed up along the lines of some moral code dictated by Amnesty International or the BBC is absurd. Don't buy Jaffa oranges, don't buy factory farmed eggs, don't holiday in Dubai, that moral maze never ends. But it goes much further, now white folk must convulse themselves with the collective guilt they all share courtesy of the behaviour of their ancestors! This is the road to madness.

I would suggest that an infinitesimally small number of Newcastle fans might give up going to St James Park because of the Saudi connection. I don't know of any City fans who did the same in 2008, but presumably there might have been some, considerably less than 1% of fans of both clubs I'll wager, but whatever the number, that doesn't make 1% right and 99% wrong.

For fuck sake we sent British troops to Saudi 30 years ago to protect the country! Yet we expect the Geordies to adhere to a higher standard because the Public Investment Fund bought Newcastle United!

I'm not saying we should (I did say I agree with the sentiment of your post).I just thought the analogy posed some interesting philosophical and moral dilemmas.

Loved that collection and the memories it brought back being at most of those great occasions. I'm not a proper fan though as l couldn't point myself out in the crowds to prove it.

Blood splattered Sheik Robes, with Wads of Cash in One hand, Bone Saw in the other.

I wonder if Prince Bone Saw will be at their first game ?
