Next Manager after Pep

The one thing that we don't talk about is, does Txixi ( and even Soiriano) stay when Pep goes? That could influence who gets the job. I do wonder what the attraction is for him, given trophies won, time here, weather etc.

On the Manager appointment, there is one thing for sure, if he doesn't win something in his first season, then there will be an almighty pile on from the press, opposition supporters and the plastics that wet their knickers at the occasional draw or dare I say defeat.
The new guy whoever he is, will need us then.

Seems people really underestimating Txixi decision to appoint manager with less CV background.

This is the same man that appoint Pep as manager to Barca Senior team back then with only Barca B as his CV, it's akin to appoint our current EDS manager as next senior City manager after Pep leaves that's how insane the decision back then was.

The appointment of Vinny as the next City manager will not come as surprise given our DoF track record to appoint what he feel the best for the club regardless what anyone especially fans think about it.
Pep wasnt equivalent to Brian Barry-Murphy (current eds manager and I had to google that).

He played for barca for 10 years and was a former captain. He also had a small amount of lower league managerial experience (albeit with barca b).

Vinny would be a pretty close comparison to appointing Pep was back then

Id be shocked if Txiki went after Kompany when Pep goes.

Kompany has zero experience managing anyone with any sort of ego or attitude, ability to juggle all major competitions and plan against the best managers in the world. Pep leaving likely results in half the backroom staff going as well and perhaps several players.

Pep is likely to be heavily involved in his successor, rightly or wrongly. I doubt he would put Kompany on his list.

This thread is seriously weird in the present circumstances but whenever Pep does leave the building lets hope Txiki stays around, if they were both to leave at the same time it would be an utter disaster.

Both Pep and the board will ensure that when he goes it is known in advance and that the next manager has a squad which doesn't require a huge overhaul. The error the rags made is that bacon ran the club and no one else had a fucking clue what they were doing. They then allowed him to retain influence but on a part time basis and it's taken 10 years for them to finally realise that they need to both hire a manager who knows what he is doing and support him through structuring the club accordingly.

In terms of managing ego's or attitude, that's a load of shite that people spout. Ten Haag had no experience of that with his Ajax team but he landed at the rags and froze out their club icon. You think Kompany who has played with numerous world class players will allow individuals to ruin what he's trying to do? Not a fucking chance. They'll be straight out of there. He was a leader as a player, he's not going to let anyone fuck about when he's manager.

The club will make sure we've got a squad that can compete and will bring in someone they feel is up to the challenge of managing the side. They'll give them time and they'll back them financially.

We don't yet know where the club will turn. Luis Enrique replaced Pep at Barcelona on the back of a good stint as Barca B manager but a poor season with Roma and a decent season with Celta Vigo. He was hardly a standout candidate but came in and won the treble because the squad was still so good. When you look at the young players we have, a few more signings and we'll be able to bring someone in to manager players who Pep has developed for 2-3 years and will adapt quite easily. It's a much easier job then.

It's not really something I want to think about, but sadly one day Pep will call it a day at City.

Just wondering what the general consensus is on who should replace him? He's only agreed two more seasons, so looking at end of 2024/2025 season possibly. I know two years is a long time in football and someone we haven't even heard of could come out of the woodwork in the meantime as a top manager...

Somebody who Pep has worked with and moulded to his style, that would be a seamless transition, like Arteta?

An ex-City player, like Patrick Vieira?

A City legend, like Vincent Kompany?

Poach a good manager from a smaller club, like Thomas Frank?

Just any old 'big name' manager, like Conte/Tuchel/Nagelsmann?

Anybody but Pochettino, please!!

Nobody has mentioned the idea of Patrick Vieira? I think he's done a good job everywhere he has been. Sure he hasn't won trophies, but were there any expectations at clubs like New York, Nice & Crystal Palace?

I think he's gathered experience at progressively bigger clubs, he'd be respected by professional footballers who would want to come and play for him, he's a big name in the football world, and I think he's got Palace playing some good stuff.

I know he wouldn't be everyones first choice, but if we got him I wouldn't be disappointed!

I saw a video a little while back of Kompany giving his players a bollocking in the dressing room (not sure if it was at Burnley or Anderlecht). I'm sure it will be on YouTube!

I was scared just watching it at home - I wouldn't cross him if he was my manager, thats for sure!

Edit: Here is the video...

I'll be interested of course to see how Vinny does next season assuming the trend continues and Burnley are promoted. I don't want to see the same thing happen that did at ManUre with Ole and Chelsea with Frank- appointments more influenceed by their history with the club than their CV and actual managerial cred.
