That i can just about live with

Quite a number of clubs play in some of those kits. I'm sure if you put a sky blue, white shorts, and sky blue socks on, most would identify it as City. Clubs like Barcelona have had their shirts changes from stripes, to halves and hoops and yet they are still distinguishable as Barcelona, just as we will be recognised as City regardless of sleeve colour.

Anyway, I blame those who like navy socks. They have identified our home colours as sky blue, white and navy blue and that's what this kit is ;-)

First of all - that's my image... posted that ages ago to illustrate the point RichardDunneOwnGoal is making (and I got the same sarcastic replies)!

Yes a number of teams do play in similar kits – but it's who you think of first that counts, and you are also correct that if you put a kit sky blue shirts, white shorts and sky blue socks, that people would identify it as City... which is the point! We chop and change far more than we should... look at this coming season's monstrosity!

So we're wearing the French home template with a different colour.

Thanks for originality Nike cunts.

Sure, after the new badge why not go the whole hog with a shirt like that.

You know what, Roma, France, England and Portugal have all had their kits fucked around with by Nike this season.

All of them have silly novelty sleeves, silly novelty shorts and silly novelty socks. All so that Nike get the maximum possible exposure.

I was expecting Nike to do exactly the same to us this year and follow the same template, so it's not come as that big a shock or disappointment.

If it was a one off, I could live with it.

The wider issue is that this has been going on for alternate seasons for the last 7 or 8 years for us.

Blue shorts one year, white the next, white socks one year, blue the next, monochrome badge one year, full colour the next, it's becoming a fucking joke.

The last time we had the same core colours for the kit in consecutive seasons was 2007 - 2008 when we had sky blue shirts, white shorts, sky blue socks for 2 seasons running.

So this idea that we have to change our core colours every single season because it helps drive sales is absolute bollocks. How do they know? We've not had the same colours two seasons on the bounce since the takeover! They're guessing.

The crux of it for me is no grown man is buying the shorts. At least I hope there isn't any full kit wankers knocking about. Maybe they sell a few thousand shorts to grown men but it will be a minimal amount.

The only possible explanation for changing the short colour is that they think they will sell more shorts if they change the colour every alternate season. Kids won't want the wrong colour shorts so they'll ask for new ones.

What I don't understand is why don't The Shite have this problem? Or Madrid, Chelsea, whoever? They keep the exact same colour every year, but I'm sure they still sell far more units of shorts than us.

Kids want the new ones no matter what. Even if our shorts stayed white every season, kids will still want the new ones. Even if the trim is slightly different or whatever, most kids in the modern world if they're in to football kits will know the difference and want the new ones for birthdays or xmas or whatever.

But the bigger issue which the club is overlooking is about identity. Kids from Asia, the US and around the world who we are trying to convince to support City, they are very wary or branding and exposure. Probably more than adults are when it comes to football kits.

Us changing our core colours every season is weakening our brand, weakening our identity. It will actually be having a detrimental affect on kid's perception of us.

If McDonalds had the golden arches one year, blue arches the next, then golden again, then purple arches the year after, kids wouldn't identify with the brand as immediately. It would take more time, and they'd probably not enjoy the changes. They like consistency, it makes it easier for them to recognise and identify with straight away.

With The Shite, Madrid, Chelsea etc, kids know what they are getting every single time, they can identify with it. With us, they don't know what the hell our colours are from one season to the next, there's no consistency, there's nothing to identify with.

Great post, and putting the point across i've been trying to do, but far more elequently.
Also, I just cannot understand the apathy of some members on here, who it seems don't give a fuck about our kit, our identity.

If that is it, to say I'm underwhelmed isn't an exageration. I don't like the sleeves at all. The darker shade of sky blue I haven't a problem with as the 1977-79 team wore a darker shade of blue including blue shorts. It reminds me of a Coventry kit from the 1970's.

To be honest the blue shorts bother me more than sleeve colours. I really don't believe a season of navy sleeves will change our identity any more than the seasons we had navy socks did. Apparently we had navy socks more than sky socks but i would guess that most people associate us with sky blue socks. Most people still identify Barca as stripes despite the fact they have had hoops and halves.

It's not my favourite kit but I don't find the shirt that bad.

This is the worst city kit for a long while..such a shame..just when we get our old id circular badge back...was looking forward to seeing it..this kit is an abortion..others have commented..is it a new team.
