That is correct. I gave 2 examples as proof of concept which then lends to the idea that there's no excuse for not being able to do it for the position that most needs it.

If we can sign what we've described as the Bundesliga's best player against the wishes of their club who are having a good season, doing better domestically than we are and have a strong shout for champions league football next season, there's really no excuse for not being able to fill the midfield hole.
 
Hahaha just paying his release clause is pretty funny. Could have done that on Friday and watched us lose from the bench yesterday.

It never mattered. It was always going to be done this weekend or today so trying to get a better deal was always worth a try. Plus sometimes when the deal is done it turns out the reported price wasn't the price agreed.

How do you know its for a very good reason? Thats an assumption based on
nothing but pure belief. It could be a very poor reason for all we know. Regardless of the reason, we've desperately needed a midfielder since September, we're now in February, if we don't get one today, that's a failure by the people tasked with getting one.

lots of talk of we tried to pay less but ended up paying the release clause

personally i don't much care for any of that talk as for all we truthfully know we might have started out with the release clause. we might even have simply been trying to negotiate favourable payment terms. we might have been investigating other options. don't much care about anything other than 11pm tonight.
