If nothing else he will give us a bit more physicality and defensive nous in midfield. Kovacic is never ever going to be good enough as a DM. The fact he can play box to box and as an 8 means he’s probably replacing Kovacic/Gundogan next season.
 
Seems perfect as a squad player, backup and potential future successor for Rodri - didn’t think we would find someone who could be all three of those.

I feel like everyone does actually know him, but they remember him as the Barca youth kid called Nico that came through with Pedri and Gavi and that generation rather than Nico Gonzalez.
He was extremely highly rated at one point, considered the heir to Biscuits.
 
Let’s not be petty here. The price is the price, don’t matter if it’s a release clause or not. If we want the player then we have to pay.

We need a player of this type badly not only for now but when Rodri returns to take the pressure off.

Massive if this gets over the line and very much welcome.

A player who can take the ball from defence and pass forward under pressure is the best news this season.

Not in a great position to negotiate, Rodri out for the season, we have no legs in midfield, horrific fixture list in February and just been twatted

Not trying to be a party pooper but the issues with the current team go far beyond simply missing Rodri and the resolution isn't as simple as putting a kid in his spot who doesn't even play as a lone DM.

Other than desperately trying to finish in the top four, this season is a write-off. Don't pin your hopes on this guy to return us to former glory in less than half a season and don't write him off when he inevitably struggles in a struggling side.

This team would be close to Liverpool if Rodri was available. It would be close to a relatively normal season. Yes, we have other problems like some defenders being injury prone and 2-3 players being over the hill. But Rodri's presence would have masked them simply because Rodri is exceptional and vital to how we play.

That said, you are absolutely right that NG can't save the season. The idea that putting a talented player from Porto in midfield would instantly transform our game is daft. I want him, but miracles shouldn't be expected.

This time we want to get a player who will be really useful in midfield, unlike Phillips and Nunes. Guess that explains the delay in signing a CM.
 
I think I have gone mad reading posts the last 2 days . This is a very good signing . I'll be shocked if it isn't .
