Nicolas Otamendi - 2016/17 performances

He's by far Citys best center back at the moment. Most of the criticism comes from his tendency to rush in, this is easily fixed.

I agree with you to a certain extent. However, it's all well saying that this is an 'easy fix', but I'd much prefer to know when he'll actually stop doing it.

He's been like this since he joined, and has given away numerous chances because of it.

He must be a pretty slow learner...

There were a couple of really good performances at the start of the season when I thought 'Pep's been in his ear, he's finally fucking got it!'. Alas, since, he's pretty much reverted to type.

Well into his second season now and he's as weak and easy to push off the ball as ever. I actually think there's a player in there, but he's 28 now, if a leopard can change his spots, he'd better get a move on.

Defence looked much better with him back in the side, sometimes he has his moments but he's our best defender at the moment, solid performance tonight.

Impossible to judge when we had no defending to do. Lets see if he can do something against Arsenal or if he'll get completely humiliated like the last time he came up against a good forward.

He miss times his headers almost every time. Jumps far too early...it's frustrating me now!

Played quite well tonight though.

was fine against watford and i was going to criticize him for consistently being out of position but i wonder if ya ya's presence in the team (and deeper role) meant that Nico was told to follow the striker around rather than hold the line.

I thought that worked really well last night.

Now against Liverpool's 100mph headless chicken pressing i'm not sure how it will work but for those type of games last night Yaya is ideal to help the centre halves.

Credit to him today, he was very good. The only hiccup was when he dived in near the end and gave away a free kick on the edge of the box. Hopefully he can find some consistency which is what he's mostly lacked.

Okay, first half not that great if we are honest. But Jesus the turnaround in the second half was like he had been possessed. He was making the correct decisions, making clearances and winning headers.

He looked like a proper rough n tumble Argentinian defender of old. More off that please Otamendi

Not sure he was great for their goal either, but thought he did ok 2nd half for sure.

Still think he's far too rash. He just dives in for the sake of it. Even when I can see he has no chance of winning the ball

He was more disciplined 2nd half that final challenge for the free kick aside. I think there is a really good defender in there but I just think he needs to hold off on the rash challenges
