Sadly I think you may be correct. That said I do think people are more sceptical than ever about politicians and our political system. A lot of us live in areas with pot-holed roads, few street lights, poor sports facilities, failing schools and hospitals, no GP services, no NHS dentists, no police presence, no or very poor and expensive transport services, widespread drug abuse, vandalism, etc etc. Surely you can't fool all the people all the time.
I travelled a lot as a young man including parts of Eastern Europe. What I see now in large swathes of the UK is as bad as anything I saw in Eastern Europe in the 1980s.
