tonights game v bayern we were the better team till they scored not being funny but ffs they are one of the recognised best teams in europe.

too many doom merchants on here

weve played some great stuff this season... oh n joint top with the scum twats

We were the better team for 30 mins. and then the game was over at half time

We couldn't get hold of the ball in the 2nd

We weren't battered. If the ref had done his job, we would have got the first goal, and it could all have been very different

A bad night was made worse by Tevez, but it might be a blessing in disguise if it helps motivate the players. They will be questioned now. And the mercenary taunt will be aired again.

We got well and truly battered by a good side tonight. But putting that to one side for a moment, I am very concerned that there are some fundamental problems with our team.

Our defence that has been built on the magnificent Kompany has looked well wobbly and Kompany has been far from himself, making all sorts of mistakes. (Definite penalty caused by him today for example btw but the ref got it wrong luckily.)

But I am not too worried about this. Komps will regain his form and he/Lescott/Kolo will get back to the solid defending we know, of that I have no doubt.

No, what worries me is our woeful lack of pace. It's far too ponderous in the build up, allowing all by the inept sides to regroup and get organised, making our attacking options very limited. We are constantly dependent on a moment of individual genius, and if that doesn't happen, the attack breaks down. If Silva can't find the killer pass, or Aguero the moment of brilliance, where is the threat coming from?

Even when we do break on a counter-attack, we get beyond the half way line and then stop and check back.

What concerns me is that this is not a momentary blip. It's down to the players we have. Where's the pace in the squad? Players who can and will run behind. All our strikers are coming deep to get the ball and for most of the time offer no threat.

We must be doing something right you would think, but when you look at our great results this season, in think they flattered us. Swansea bossed us for 20 minutes (worrying in itself) before falling apart. Spurs set up all wrong and positively refused to defend, thereby leaving us tons of space in front of their back four and we ran amok. The 5-1 was as much down the their dire defending as our great attacking. Also Dezko played out of his skin, which I hope we may see again because it seems to have lost him.

But we struggled for much of the time against Wigan (although the score says otherwise), and to an extent against Bolton. The Fulham capitulation wasn't exactly inspiring. We scraped a goal against Everton and got another again due to brilliance from Silva and the fact they were stretched.

I don't know how to fix it, I am a numpty really but I know when what I see is not right. I think we desperately need some width and pace on the wing(s). Johnson is not that players, and certainly not when played on the right. I am wondering if it was a mistake to let Sweep go. Pretty ridiculous when you think of the money we have spent that our squad could be so basically lacking.

A lot of rubbish I'm afraid, we lost to Bayern Munich one of the top sides in the world and for 35 minutes we were the better side.

Goals change games and unfortunatley for us Bayern got it, nothing more complicated than that.

We should have had a penalty and but for Micah's theatrics we would have got one.

You also need to brush up on your rules, Kompany cleary impedes the player (obstruction) which is therefore an indirect free-kick in the penalty box at worst. It drives me mad how many people are unaware of some of the fundamental rules of the game.

We had the same last season when Boyata got sent off with the justification being he was the 'last man' when the rule clearly states it has to be denying a clear goalscoring opportunity.

Your analysis is flawed and just looking for a problem that doesn't exist. How you can even attempt to use the spurs game of 'proof' of problems is idiocy.

You can't play fast free flowing foootball when there are 21 players in one half that by itself leads to you having to pick out a pass and will inevitably slow the game down. You seem to think that the opposition should just come and play an open game to allow us to play fast attacking football.

The rags drew with Basle tonight so what are there problems ? Its one game we can lose, it doesn't automatically point to fundamental problems !! I'm sure 90 other English clubs would like to have the problems you have identified !!!

CL football is a huge step up. You have to take your chances and be on point for the whole 90 mins. That said no shame in losing 2-0 to Bayern who are probs in the top 4 teams in Europe along with United, Barca and Madrid. It's just the actions on the touchline by some City players that makes today's game disgraceful.

Not knee jerk?

Could have fooled me!

We should have been 2-0 up with 2 penalties. We were better for 30 minutes.

It's all ifs and buts........BUT we would not have lost IMO if the officiating had been fair in those early stages. Somehow I doubt that this thread would then have been made by you....

For 30 minutes of tonight we were every bit good enough to be on that pitch, don't forget it. Don't also forget we should have been 1-0 up after 3 minutes, and providing everything continued as is, potentially 2-0 up with another penalty. Of course it never works like that, but do you think we would have capitulated that badly 2-0 up? No. And we would likely be having a right old sing and dance on here about bringing on Barcelona and we'll put them to the sword.

We're not as good as we thought going into the match, but we're nothing like as bad as some think at the end of it either.
spot on goals change games, and two penalties for sure, seen the penalities in napoli's and utds games and they were soft our two were nailed on imo,but the ref bottled it...

i think we can see why we were so desperate for sanchez now... could of had him and johnno on the wings running against the full backs driving the team forward and getting balls into the box... dare i say it but i bet SWP would have done a decent job tonight. lack of pace very apparent. Its no good relying on the likes of clichy and richards for pace and width against the top teams because they will just expose the space left behind when they push up... a traditional 4-4-2 although boring is the way forward against the top teams.. UTD execute it excellently and bayern tonight with two wingers running at us were also very effective.
A winger and world class CB in january is a must.... oh and tevez can f*ck off

It wasn't our night - for lots of reasons. That is stating the obvious, but, ignoring all the obvious and controversial after match events, we didn't have any luck tonight in my opinion, and most of the crucial decisions went against us.
the early Silva incident was a definite penalty. That could have given us an early 1-0 then we have a different night.
they scored the econd with the last kick of the first half - the very worst time, just about. game was pretty much over.
You make your own luck they say - whatever. Just not our night - in so many horrible ways.
A lot of chickens finally came home to roost. there is only 1 option, I'm afraid - love him or loathe him, the manager has to get 100% backing to carry on and keep on improving us. Second in the league and power to win 3 games yet in the Champions league - it's all still to play for - but without Tevez - the f,,,,, stupid twat.

I'm a bit worried. Apart from Spurs we haven't really played anyone that good and won yet this season. We should be beating teams like Swansea, Bolton, Wigan & Everton.

Mancini seems slow to make changes & when he does you sometimes wonder what is going on with his subs. I know the Tevez saga tonight has diverted attention, but his subs tonight when chasing a game 2-0 were strange to say the least.

Mario has looked sharp in the last two games, gutted he couldn't play tonight.

I don't think Tevez will be a great miss, he has been poor when he has featured so far this season & after his antics tonight he has shown that he should be nowhere near the club.

Saying that it's all quite exciting playing in the Champions League. Gutted about tonights result but we can still qualify.

I think we are struggling with the champions league plus trying to mount a challenge in the league. We just don't have the cover regardless of what we have spent we have no real width aj injured no cover.

Dejong injured no like for like cover. Fullbacks we are fine am we are fine upfront we were fine before tevez and dzeko went off reservation. Kompany is quality lescott ok not top class though then we are struggling a bit at centre half as well.

I just think th cl is causing us problems these are top sides and we can't play our best 11 twice a week .

Not sure what the answer is. Tevez needs to be gone - out of the country gone. Dzeko needs to apologise and doma stint on the bench (just harms us really as we are now seriously short upfront)

Main worry is we nave given the press what they want and now have them on our backs again we will need to win the next 4 games back to back to keep them quite again.
